I am new to this, and I just added the 87 octane tune, what additional settings should i go with? I dont have the data logger or computer hookup, so what can be done without those? Thanks for all the help!

can i do that without the computer interface cables?
RE: 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3 first time user
do you have a new version 7198 on a 9rxx revision?? if so, you can save data logs, and yes, having the cables makes it a lot easier so you can save the log and download it to your pc...
BUT...
you don't HAVE to have 'em... you'll just have to watch your LTFT numbers for bank 1 and bank 2 live on the screen while you drive steady according to the info provided at the link that WhiteBuffalo posted...

So my ltft is the values in my 02 banks? Is this the numbers that are short term or long term, for short term, I am running about 4.82 avg. This is with the factory tune installed. Now what do I adjust? Do I do this adjustment on the factory tune? Or would i throw the 87 tune on and go from there. O and I don't have the data logging capability. Thanks for all your help
RE: 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3 first time user
you need to log long term fuel trim bank 1, and long term fuel trim bank 2....
don't care about the short terms... it's the long terms that matter...
so, you'll have to watch both banks for the LTFT's on the screen while you drive... while driving steady at the necessary rpm, and see what your ltft's are reading while steady cruising...
then adjust your slope as needed, depending on those numbers....
i.e. - if your ltft's for bank 1 and bank 2 average out to be +4.xxx, then you would adjust your injector slope to be -5%...
here's info: http://www.diablosport.com/index.php?na ... opic&t=917
do a normal steady drive/cruise, and post up the LTFT numbers you have, and I'll tell ya what you need to do...

right on thanks for clarifying man, my long term were around 13, i will log on my way home today, and post them up, as far as that once i get the ltfts tuned in, what other adjustments go from there?
RE: 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3 first time user
You need to throw the 87 tune on first, run for 50 or so miles and then do a log. I'm not positive on this, but I believe the tunes do adjust your fueling a small amount. I would suggest to always install the tune you will be running and then adjust from there, and only adjust one thing at a time. It will take a little time, but once you get to the "sweet spot" it will be well worth the time you spent.

with the factory tune, my long term for bank one was 10.61 and for bank two was 11.48 at 67 mph (2089 rpms), now what to do for adjustments? I want to run the 87 tune, so would i just repeat this step once i install the 87 tune? Thanks

Yep...factory is an adjust ment of about -12.
If you want to run 87 just install that and log those numbers instead of adjusting factory.

Are you supposed to log the LTFT in 4th gear cruising or bump down to 3rd cruising? I'm confused reading the stuff on on DSLOGREDUX and reading here. In 4th the rpm's are way low at 70 mph (1900-2000) and in 3rd they're at 2500-2800. So which do you log for?
RE: 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3 first time user
logged with the 87 tune and gettin 18.67 to 19.41, tuned the injector slope to -18, now my numbers are around -0.87 and 0. Does this seem right? Also, upon starting my truck, it starts strong then kicks down during idle(all while in park) and the then truck shutters very gently...the truck doesnt do this normally, what needs to be adjusted? thanks again
RE: 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3 first time user
i logged right at 2000 rpms(2089), which was right at 68 mph. hope this helps?
