hp tuners release
Hp tuners is releasing a beta version of their tuning software for the dodge hemis within the next month or month and a half was wondering if dsp was thinking of releasing some better tuning software to compete. the handheld is good when its the only thing you can get but when hptuners puts out there final software people are gonna be selling dsp's like they were toxic assets.

RE: hp tuners release
No they wont, because in order to use HPtuners, you have to understand HOW to tune these cars, it is not quite as simple as the Predator makes it out to be.
HP tuners in the hands of the average Predator user can be dangerous.
Trust me, since I have seen some of the best Ford and GM tuners make the switch to DCX tuning, I can say that it is not something that everyone can do.
Either way, we have long debated whether or not to offer end use software, as supporting it would be the biggest problem, but it may happen.

RE: hp tuners release
that would be awesome considering people dont do their mods all at once they bolt on something here and their and end up having to pay for a tune after every mod its just not cost effective at all. and then if you dont have a tuner nearby your stuck running dyno runs over the phone to some guy in texas. my friend is getting the beta version soon for hp tuners and if its what they say it is then im going that route. but id rather stay dsp so slap the usual disclaimer on the software and send me a copy.

What's the over/under on
"I used Chip Master Personal and now my PCM is dead"

RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
most people will have the sense to not mess with the tuner if they don't know what they are doing. and those that do will love it and start a new thread on here to offer support to guide people on how to use it maybe even post up similar setups to guide people on getting on the right track for tunes for their own vehicle. but for the ones that fry their pcm or blow up their motor well that's where the i told you so came in and everybody is safe. and lesson learned. hp tuners hasn't gone out of business and i can only imagine how many people have fried their stuff, the pros out way the cons.

RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
Ummm, lol, I don't know what perfect world you live in but count the number of head & cam guys that blew up their motors in just the first couple of weeks after the handheld came out. Even though it said "the supplied tunes are not for major mods like heads & cam". And then blamed the product. That's why DS hasn't pulled the trigger. You can write all the disclaimers you want. The risk is the bad press and the inevitable pile-on. It's always astounding how many people do a 100% about face after swearing up and down that they understand and accept the risk and claim to have the required knowledge. They blow up their motor for $10K out of pocket and all of a sudden it's a different story.
Maybe now that the handheld has been out for a while more people have become a bit more aware. I also expect the CMR product to be priced such that the market is going to be way more serious tuners who are way more likely to know what they're doing. So maybe the risk isn't so bad. I'm sure hoping they come out with a personal license.

RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
No hoping from me. I still wouldn't do it. I'm very aware that my tuning skills are nowhere near AJ's or Johans, so they can do my tunes, thank you.
RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
There's that. and then there are more than a few tuners with a lot of experience and very good at tuning Ford or GM motors who had problems with the hemis. Our motors and tuning are a bit different I think when you start pushing the limits.

RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
if you think that a canned 93 tune is sufficient enough to run big valve heads and a cam then you deserve to have your motor blow up simple as that. if dsp decides to release the EUCMR they already have the infrastructure to guide people to use it and that would be this forum.

Re: RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
Thats part of the problem...we are not looking to teach anyone how to tune, there are classes for that.xsignature wrote:if you think that a canned 93 tune is sufficient enough to run big valve heads and a cam then you deserve to have your motor blow up simple as that. if dsp decides to release the EUCMR they already have the infrastructure to guide people to use it and that would be this forum.
IF we release software, we will not be doing tune support, we'll help with functionality issues if they come up, but we will not be explaining to anyone how to tune a car.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: hp tuners release
i understand why you guys don't want to teach cause then every second would be somebody saying hey can you teach me how to tune. but what im saying is not use this forum to teach to tune, but for users to help other users figure out whats wrong with tunes they have written say for a cam swap. it wouldn't be for the novice.

disclaimer: I want to see EUCMR. but let me play the other side for discussioin.xsignature wrote:it wouldn't be for the novice.
How do you control that? It WILL be used by novices. Worse yet, it will be used by semi-novices with enough knowledge to be dangerous. Saying "sorry, we told you we weren't going to provide tuning support" doesn't work. Look at the handheld. I don't know, but it looks to me that they spend a good percentage of their time here on stuff that has nothing to do with the product itself and fire fighting bad PR because of it?
Then again, it might not be that much of a problem since I would expect the pricing to mitigate that.

SCT has the equivalent of single user CMR, and there was a decent community of people working with each other to figure out how to use it for the SRT-4. You had to sign an agreement before they would activate it saying you are responsible for anything you do. Most people can see through the BS when people come on a forum and say the software is what caused their engines to let go. If anyone is scared off by that without doing research, it is probably a plus because you likely wouldn't want them as a customer anyway.
The apostrophe does not mean "Look out, here comes an S"!
"I couldn't care less" means it is impossible to care less - "I could care less" just makes you look stupid.

I can say from experience that SCT has NOTHING on Diablosport as far as Dodge is concerned.
