Shell gas with nitrogen.

I know Shell gas is not on your recommended list but what do you guys think of the new Shell V-Power gas formula with added nitrogen? Will this help a Predator tuned car? Do you think it will help reduce knock? The nitrogen is supposed to keep the engine's fuel system and valves cleaner. Maybe it's just hype?

Not really sure to be honest with you.
However i have noticed that Shell did something with their fuel within the past few months as it has gotten much better.
We have a station right around the corner and many customers fill up there before they come here and lately that has not been an issue so they did something right this time.

Great. That's good to know. I will give it a try.

Magnum, give some a try and datalog it. Let us know how it compares to other fuels.

its the same thing as techron in chevron gas.. we had a bio fuel engineer in class spaeking to us and i asked him the same thing.

personally im very skeptical about this. there is obviously a lot more to it, than nitrogen enrichment. i run the plants, that make 1/3 or so, of the oil you guys get in the states. Gasoline is made from cuts of this oil. and one of the main things we do to treat it, is remove the nitrogen. we have to stay below 22ppm nitrogen in our product, or it can cause big problems for the refineries downstream. so this sounds like crappier gasoline to me, if it contains more nitrogen. nitrogen is an inert gas. so by putting more nitrogen in your cylinder, you take away volume, that could be held by something that burns. which is what creates power.

I'm going to give it a try on my next tank. Predator in hand.

What can you tell us about BPs Invigorate? The Hemi really seems to like the stuff what ever it might be. Or it may just like it because its in the gas with no Ethanol. Either way I'm curious.

PS: The Hemi loves a bit of NitroMethane in the tank. Changes the sound a lot and runs real strong. :twisted:

sorry. i dont even know what gas station BP is?? pretty sure we dont have them in Canada. and i dont keep up on that stuff much anyways. i always use shell fuel, since its known to be the best. but the whole nitrogenated fuel, sounds like snake oil to me. im sure there is something to it, but they just arent telling you the science behind it.

Mike, I can tell you that BP is the only gas around here that I can log without getting ST Knock on even the 91OCT tune. I have purchased other brands of 92 octane gas that show ST Knock with the 91OCT tune! FYI they are now selling a 93 octane product around here (FINALLY) and on our Jeep it runs clean on the 93 octane tune. I have not been able to log it with the SRT yet, but will next week probably.

BP with Invigorate has given me the lowest ST KR readings of any brand I have tried so far with my 5.7. I went from the "non-nitrogen" Shell 93 (ST KR of 6), to Exxon 93 (ST KR of 2.5), to BP 93 (ST KR of 1.5).

I hope the BT Catch Can I am purchasing helps a little with that last bit of ST KR :twisted:

catch can should help w/ knock reduction. Did for me.

The Shell gas in Ontario (Canada) is really quite good stuff. There is a sticker on the pump that lists the ethanol content of the 3 gasolines:

87 = 10% Ethanol
89 = 5% Ethanol
91 = 0% Ethanol (V-Power). I like it and use it when I am running the 91 CAI tune. The only time I can run the 93CAI tune is when I am running Sunoco 94. There is Ethanol in Sunoco 94 but that extra 1 point in the octane rating offsets the ethanol so it does not show up as Knock Retard when I am at WOT.

Isn't Nitrogen, in it's liquid form very COLD? If you take gaseous nitrogen and compress it (like say during a compression stroke) would it not compress into a semi liquid state, which would cool the air within the combustion chamber, making it more dense? We all know that denser volume of air in the combustion process improves performance (the whole idea behind NOS). Just a theory of mine (I'm no chemist or expert for that matter). :lol:

Whe you compress a gas, it gets hotter, not colder.
