2008 Charger SRT8 Knock (Stock log).

Hello All,

I was told to post a log here regarding issues I'm having with my car. I installed the Predator U7135 and have experienced a large amount of Knock (up to 8*). The car started to ping here and there after about 3000 miles, particularly ln the low RPM/moderate throttle position. I just installed a catch can yesterday (after 4700 miles) and I'm hoping this will help. I'm was using Chevron 91 with the 91 performance tune with just a Magnaflow cat-back.

This log is a short drive with the stock tune. I will log the 91 tune today or tomorrow. I just wanted to get some expert advice as to weather or not this is high for a car with just a cat-back. I'm not quite sure if the logging I did consists of the proper parameters.

Try a different brand of fuel and if you do not have one, get a catch can.
If you have knock in the stock tune format you most likely have some oil in your intake.

Thanks johan. I have tried several different brands (Shell was the worst), and i just installed the catch can 100 miles ago... Hopefully it will help. I have the most knock at 50% or more throttle and low rpm, when the car cant decide to shift or not from second to first.

Did you clean out the manifold when you installed the can? If not theres probablya pool of oil sitting on the bottom of it.

No, I just installed it and didn’t check the manifold. I can’t see why if this is such an issue with these cars they don’t come with something similar from the factory.

I know my knowledge for this sort of scenario is limited, but I'm surprised that some people that are not running catch cans don’t complain about these issues.

Had about 7000 when that pic was taken. I bought it with 3850 and put a catch can on at that time, so thats about 4000 miles worth of oil.

Incredible... I guess the accumulated oil doesn’t get burned up eventually. Thanks for your help.

I just cleaned out my Intake Manifold, and it looked gunked up like yours. Is that really enough oil to cause pinging? What exactly is happening? Is the residual oil in there enough to cause pinging/knocking?

I just went for a test drive. So far so good, buts it's cool here today and it happens worse when it’s hot out. No pinging so far.

Thank You.I had some serious lt and st knk on my stock tune with my car also.I ran this stuff called SEAFOAM thru the intake and installed catch can-problem is now gone.Seafoam is at any auto store for about 10 bucks
