Shift kit for 4L60E

2000 Silverado
Well, in short order with the canned tune installed from the Predator (U7198 v.9r15) and adjustments made to shift firmness and time while keeping the one tm feature "on" it's apparent that the weak link in the equation is the tranny. 2-3 and 3-4 are great, quick and firm, but there's a good deal of "sponge" in the 1-2 shift and I fear putting down any rubber is beyond what I currently have; Vararam intake, BBK 1&3/4 Shorties and Gibson Supertruck exhaust. Truck bogs at WOT from a standing start. Will a shift kit, say from TCI, help rectify the shortcomings and increase durability of the 4L60? What effect would a shift kit have on the diablo settings? What other mods would you suggest in my quest to take 10,000 miles of wear off my tires in 20 feet? Waiting on computer serial cable to load logs and custom tune and will be back with numbers when I get them.

You could try a corvette servo, helps out with the 1-2 shift. I did it to my truck and it was a nice improvement over stock. Plus they only cost between 15-20 bucks, and, only takes about a half hour to put in.

Just because it was first time and I was extremely careful it took about an hour and a half. I have a 2000 Z-71 and after removing the heat shield I found there wasn't enough space to pull the servo out as a unit. I had to remove the pistons individually, then take the shaft out. The same was true of the install, spring and washers on shaft first, then placing the shaft into the servo housing, then slipping the pistons, washers and e-clip on with the shaft in the bore. Beware the "e" clip removal and installation and the snap ring!!! A standard wunderbar was perfect for leveraging the servo cover into place to install the retaining ring. I got a billet servo aftermarket, but the GM part for my truck would have been from a '99 or 2000 'vette

Here is a site that might answer some questions to this topic, I installed the servo in my truck and found that it made a world of difference.

There are two kits available one for 1-2 and another that has different pistons for 1-2 & 2-3 I believe. I only installed the one for 1-2 .

Ya, I did the servo...it adds a little grabbing power...but the 4L60E is still pretty weak.

I've been thinking about this!

just read that thread and i was wondering if putting in the vette servo will eliminate that "sponginess" feeling you get when shifting from 1-2 at WOT. if my truck 1-2 shift didnt have this problem im sure i would be getting much faster 0-60 times

Yes it will improve the shifting from 1-2.
It'll hold better and shift quite abit firmer..

Not to point out the obvious...but I will  !! For anyone doing the servo swap...I checked out a number of sites related to the swap and one of the common threads is hasty installations without proper lubrication of the "O" rings. Lotta torn ones out there and subsequent excedrin headaches. Make sure ya use a sufficient amount of assembly lube to do the job. Don't just use trans fluid as a number of folks have tried or recommended. And if it don't go...don't force it!
