Engine Surge 09 Challenger 5.7

Post by 18forever »

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem or has heard of it? I put the 91 octane CAI tune on my Challenger and everything has been great as far as torque, power, and overall performance, but.... Every now and then I get a throttle/RPM surge. This happens randomly, cruise on or off, up an incline or down, 35 mph or 60 mph, no real pattern to it. It's not the trans trying to downshift or anything in the TCM, not changes made by me in that area. It acts like you just tapped the gas pedal for a second. The RPM's jump about 500 and then go right back down. It's done this while accelerating, cruising, and decel. Like I said no pattern what so ever. Went back to stock tune and it went away, went back to 91 CAI and it's back. Running 3/4 tank 93 and 1/4 tank 87 mix in the gas, that's why I settled for 91 tune. Any Help?

Turn MDS off.

All the tunes reduce torque management. With reduced torque management you can feel the MDS kicking in and out.

I agree^^ I had the same issues. Turned MDS off, no more surges.

Thanks everyone, I suspected but wanted to make sure. Other than this everything has been running great. I plan to try altering different things in small incriments and see how things go.
