all these cable related issues with Trinity?
I just ordered my Trinity from Diablo Sport yesterday (July 31st). Will this unit come with the bad cable or has the production change soon enough so my unit comes with the "improved cable"?
RE: all these cable related issues with Trinity?
It will come with the production cable.. No problems for ya!

Mine had the "production" cable when I rec'd it; you might as well call Monday for the replacement and get it coming. Although, unless there is another modification or change of connector to the Trinity, it sounds like you will have the same issues with "locking" the cable into place. My 1st cable took a bunch of cycles of plugging and unplugging before I could get it to "lock" on both sides at the same time.
But then, just like the experience that "Duster360" is living, it would constantly lose with the vehicle and have to been "re-booted" to work.
New cable fixed the reliability of the connection..., but will not lock both "tangs" at the same time.
RE: Re: RE: all these cable related issues with Trinity?
I have the same cable you have (Thrill-Ride)..... I am running into no such issues with the unit or the production cable.
RE: Re: RE: all these cable related issues with Trinity?
There is a minor issue with the production cable locking in. The right side goes in real easy, but you have to really push it to get the left tang to lock.
RE: Re: RE: all these cable related issues with Trinity?
Personally I just think the connector takes a little time to get the hang of it. I have't had much issue with it not locking in.
The loss of a data connection to the vehicle to me seems to be related to the software. Maybe not , but I'm not convinced that this is cable related.
Imo there seems to be more Chrysler guys(SCI bus) with this issue than any other. i could be wrong, maybe we all just whine louder

Its only Chrysler guys, because we got Trinity Support first. Only the Chryslers and diesels are supported for now (and a few Mustangs and F-150s). The GM and general Ford support hasn't been released yet.

That's not the "replacement" cable.
I had the same issues with the unit constantly losing the connection. The replacement cable fix the connectivity issues.
And, it was already tough to get the cable "locked" with the original.
Now, it is impossible!
Which one do U have sfla_srt4?

A is the cable we have seen issues with, B is the new, replacement cable.
Duster, if you would like to try a new one, PM me a shipping addy so I can get one out to you...

uh, oh I think the new cable may be more troublesome to latch. like I said in the other thread:Thrill-Ride wrote:That's not the "replacement" cable.

From your pic Thrill-Ride, looks like another .03"-.05" is lost. not good. The over molding on my connector is just barely contacting the Trinity enclosure when its fully seated and snapped in. If the contact was another .005" in the wrong direction I doubt my cable would completely connect. I've designed several electronic module/cable interfaces and imo the contact tolerance is just too close to allow a reliable connection.
If it were my design, I'd modify the tooling for the over mold to allow another .01"-.02" gap between the enclosure and the connector.
The snaps need be at least .115-.125" from the connector mold.

No doubt, it is a tight fit, but I promise, once you get it in there, you'll realize how much better it is than the first connector, there is no front to back play anymore.duster360 wrote:uh, oh I think the new cable may be more troublesome to latch. like I said in the other thread:Thrill-Ride wrote:That's not the "replacement" cable.

Mike, you may have missed my response from the original thread entitled "Replacement Cable for Trinity will not lock into port" but here it is for your convenience...
Mike, my wife is constantly complaining about the severity of my "G.I. Joe Kung Fu Grip"; if I can't get this connector to seat, no one will (without something breaking; probably the Trinity housing). I don't want to take a chance. I was very forceful with it already. I'd be glad to send this unit back in exchange for a new one if you feel this issue is limited to this particular device. If you can get the cable to seat, then I guess the unit can be redistributed; I'm tired of F@#%* with it. At $800.00, I want to be able to play with my investment, not battle it.
