I am new here and joined mainly to ask some questions before I purchase one of these. I have noticed from several members that there seems to be issues with shift firmness in their trucks after installing the 87 octane tune. since this issue seems to be more than a couple of cases, I would have to ask if there is going to be any updates to the program to fix this or is it on an as needed basis?
I am considering purchasing one of these to use on my 2002 Chevy Silverado Z-71. The 87 octane tune doesn't concern me, as I would load the performance tune. I guess I am concerned about loading the program and then going out and dropping the tranny. If the fix is on an as needed basis, may I ask what it consists of? I would assume also from the other posts that if this condition occurs that I could just load my stock program back in and email or call you guys? Some other questions I have is in the directions it makes no comment of a 87 octane tune, is this on the menu, or does it just come up for trucks? Also, I am assuming that to eliminate the torque management that it is in a custom menu or does the performance tune eliminate some of this? Also, my truck has its original battery. I have no issues that I know of with it, but should I replace it before installing a tune?
Lastly, I am considering adding a CAI, headers, and a catback exhaust. Would the performance tune still work or to be 100 % effective would I need you guys to write me a program? Sorry for all the questions, but I like to have as much info as possible on things like this before I make a purchase. Thanks!

The shifting issues are hit or miss in some trucks.
We correct the issue through a custom tune, very simple.
The 87 octane tune was added after the manuals were printed, but it is in there.
TM is reduced in the tunes provided, but can be eliminated if you desire.
Be sure the battery is healthy, you could have it tested if you are unsure.
Longtube headers will generally require custom tuning, but the CAI and catback will be fine.

That is good to know. I realy have no interested in the 87 octane tune. I am having my truck re-flashed Monday to finish up repair work for a TSB for the 2-3 shift. I still plan on replacing the battery as it is the original. With the custom tunes can you guys adjust for engine displacement changes as well. I guess a good example would be if I changed the engine in my truck from a 5.3 to say a 6.0L? Also, in regards to my last post, the full length headers I am looking at have cats and are equipped to handle all the o2 sensors, is a customprogram needed for this or is it recommended to get the full benefit? We could provide you with a 6.0 tune if necessary.
A custom tune is not required for the longtubes, but as you said, it is recommended to get the full benefit.

Thanks for all the info. I followed the link, and I have dealer right down the street. If I have read the site correctly would the CMR dealer be able to tune for increases in displacement? Sorry for all the questions, but I am just trying to make sure of what I am buying. Thanks again so much for your time.

If the dealer is knowledgeable he will be able to dial your vehicle in right. Remember the tuning methods of a vehicle is like wrenches it is the person who is doing the wrenching that needs to know what he is doing in order to produce good results.
