04 305hp runs bad at 50hp setting but runs great at 90hp

Post by darrylv »

my 04 dodge ram 3500 (08/03) runs great with the D7157 installed and set at 90hp setting on the switch but when I set it to the lower setting the engine runs rough and feels like it is surging. I have checked the 10th digit vin# and it is a 4. What do I need to do to correct this problem.

thanks darrylv

I'm having similar issues too. Does your truck idle rough and sound horrible? My build is 10/03, and I think we are in the same boat. I am going to try a 7158 as duallydave and Johan have sugguested. I will keep all of you posted with the progress.

I have the SAME EXACT issue. My build is 09/03 on my '04 and I just installed my D7157 yesterday. 10th digit on mine is a '4' as well.

I've emailed Johan (sorry about that, couldn't register first few times).
I don't see a D7158, just a D7159 for 2004.5-2007s?

What is our best option here?

im pretty sure the 7158 is a older version of the 7159,when i looked up the 7158 it was for a 05 only.so i guess they got rid of the 7158 and replaced it with the 7159 which does more years.all i know is that it worked on my truck.

I hope that is the issue. I deinstalled the 7157, can't have it on there if the 60hp setting isn't working b/c that's the setting I bought it for. Hopefully, Thoroughbred Diesel has a good customer service program and I can swap with them.

duallydave - did you see any MPG improvements?

I'm working with Thoroughbred to swap for a D7159.

Thanks. Johan recommended I try the D7156 - Thoroughbred Diesel is working with me so I'll report back on the 7156.

Thanks for all the input that has been recieved. Just got of the phone today with thoroughbred diesel, they said they did not think that a 7159 would connect to the plug connectors and I should try the 7156. Guess I will know in a couple of weeks, let me know if the 7159 will work

THANKS FOR THE HELP

7156 did the trick - runs well. Thanks for the advice Johan and thanks for the good customer service from Thoroughbred!

newbie here, kind of confused. i bought a power puck about a week ago for my dads 04 2500 with the 305hp motor. motor was built 1/14/04. i have a D7157 in it. it idles rough and surges in both settings. my question is: should i exchange it for a D7156 or a D7159? (didnt see any D7158) and has anybody dealt with xtremediesel when it comes to situations like this?
