having problems not too happy

Post by nightrunner06 »

well to start off i had a superchips tuner for my 2006 dodge ram 1500 5.7l hemi.(cai, magnaflow catback) and overall i was satisfied with it. but then through advertising i heard that the "diablo sport predator" made more power...

so i broke down and bought a u7137, i tried to install it and i had to upgrade my pcm in my truck (i knew i might have to do this), but i had to spend $50 on a data / power cord for the computer. ( DS predator should have came with this!) ..... so i try to update my truck, and the tuner was up to date. and now the tuner still doesnt recognize my ignition, so i had to find a way around it. i called tech support and they said "it didnt matter".........ok? so then i tuned my truck (93 tune) with 93 fuel, and also adj the shift points to the same they were on the superchips.

so i went out to test the DS predator, and i LOST TWO CAR LENGTHS! i was droning against a 05' mustang v6 with both chips on the same day... and multiple runs...

ive tried to tune it out my knock sensors are fine. AF fine..(ive been reading DS forums for about 8 hours, ) i cant make up the lengths i lost.

also the shift was firmer with superchips, and it needed less throttle to move the truck with superchips.

hopefully Diablo sport can provide me with something? return may be my only option.

what do you mean by "LOST TWO CAR LENGTHS!" ? are you comparing your race times against yourself on the superchips or stock tune and measuring the difference in car lengths? if so, I'm somewhat curious as to how you're doing that.

did you race the same mustang on the same day under the same conditions using both the superchips tune and the DS tune and consistently win with the SC tune and lose by two car lengths with the DS tune? This seems unlikely, but if it is the case, you might have something to be upset about.

Now, if what you're saying is that you raced the same car multiple times on the same day and lost by two car lengths consistently with both the SC and the DS tunes, I don't understand why you're complaining. The '05 mustang has a curb weight of about 3400 lbs, and the Ram 1500 has a curb weight of over 5100 lbs. True, the mustang is rated at 210hp, and the Ram at 345hp, but it's about power to weight, not just power. The mustang also likely has less drivetrain losses than the Ram- bigger parts take more power to move. Assuming no drivetrain losses and completely stock vehicles, the Ram would have slightly better power to weight than the mustang, but any mods made to the mustang will have a more significant impact on power to weight than the same mods (meaning same hp gains) on the Ram. The transmission gearing in the mustang is probably better suited for racing than the Ram's transmission, which would also contribute to your loss.

i understand all of that, (mustang vs. ram ) stuff,,,, but all the testing was done with in a hour of each other, about (ten runs) (5 with superchips and 5 with diablo sport)....... and there was no tire spinning with either vehicle, and there both automatics left in drive, and all races were from a dead stop. so they are really consistant,....... im not complaining that i lost to the mustang (because i won all times) im complaining because i consistantly lost 2 car lengths just by having the diablosport installed vs. superchips

What does this mean?

My guess would be the Super CHiPs has an A/F and timing that is more favorable(more timing; leaner A/F) to your particular truck. Two things that can be easily changed with the DSP.

What was the WOT A/F with the Super CHiPs vs the DSP----do you have a wideband O2 sensor that will datalog?

What was the WOT timing with the Super CHiPs vs the DSP?
(hint: since the pos Super CHiPs can't datalog, you can still use the DSP to record data even though you aren't using the DSP tune)

Why don't you use your Predator to log both?

Log with the SCT installed.
Log with the DS tune installed.
Compare logs.

Superchips tuner, SCT, Jet, ==> Some *other* product that's supposed to make your car go faster... no difference right? :D

do you think that the superchips has a leaner A/F and more timing? or are you guessing.

i would think that the diablos base tune would make more power then superchips....and that all the other stuff diablo has to offer is for fine tuning (incase i happen to get other mods) but as of right now im not seeing it. :?:

On the other hand, logging it to actually find out wouldn't be as much fun as speculating and would probably cut the thread short.

 Its just a supposition, I have no idea, thats why I asked the follwoing:

What was the WOT A/F with the Super CHiPs vs the DSP----do you have a wideband O2 sensor that will datalog?

What was the WOT timing with the Super CHiPs vs the DSP?

Also when I said "My guess would be" might have been a tip off that it was in fact a "guess"

Lets see some datalogs
