2009 Charger R/T (5.7) no mods...

Post by HappyWino »

What benefit (if any) am I going to see from a Predator running stock on regular gas?

Thanks

Sorry, yes, 87oct, although I guess I would be interested in hearing what I should expect with higher oct and a corresponding tune? I should say I am in NorCal so I think my oct choices are a little more limited than other parts of the country.

Doesn't Dodge recommend (in the owners manual) 91 octane? You shouldn't even run 87 in a 100% unmodified hemi.

Yeah, we tune for a minimum of 91 octane, and you'll see solid gains of 20+ rwhp with these tunes.

You mean I should read that thing, damn, never occurred to me! ;)

When I was looking at a couple of different cars before purchasing the Charger I could have sworn I saw it ran standard on 87, I'll certainly check tonight.

20+ rwhp with a stock Charger on 91 octane?

Checked tonight, at least in the manual I have for a CA delivered Charger, the manual calls for 87-89 Octane (in the 3.5 or 5.7) and recommends against higher (because of the stock tuning I am sure), at the pump I went to today I had the choice of 87 or 91, I was nearly empty so I went with the 87.

My 06 Charger Manual says 89 Octane. I was running that for about a month, then put in the 91 tune (being in SOCAL no 93 oct avail) I have noticed great HP improvement when I want to step on it and improved gas mileage when I control myself. May spend a couple of bucks more at the pump using 91 but it sure is worth it.

I always used 91 octane in my '08 R/T Road & Track model. When I got the Predator, I started using 93 and ran the 91 Octane tune for a few tankfuls before switching to the 93 Octane tune.

I noticed a huge SOTP performane improvement when I went from stock to the 91 tune and only a slight difference when I installed the 93 tune. I disabled the MDS on both tunes. With the Predator tunes, your Charger will feel like a different car!
