Disconnecting Battery cable

Post by USMCBulldogSRT »

We have a Car show in Orlando this weekend. The International car show put on by Motor Trend. Our Muscle cars are going to be part of the show. I have an R/T with the 93 Oct tune in it and the Rev limiter tweeked. One of the conditions at the show which I guess is a safety feature is that Motor trend wants us to disconect one of the battery cables while the car is there which will be for four days. My question is, will this affect the 93 Oct tune at all? I can use an answer as soon as possible. We are supposed to be taking the cars over to the convention center tomorrow.

Thanks

Don

No, it will do nothing to your tune. It will reset things like LT knock, LT fuel and such, but the tune will remain unchanged. It is no different than if the car had the stock tune and you left the battery unhooked.
The apostrophe does not mean "Look out, here comes an S"!

"I couldn't care less" means it is impossible to care less - "I could care less" just makes you look stupid.

no... disconnecting the battery will not remove/erase/change the tune at all...

the only thing it does is reset learned parameters, like fuel trims, emissions readiness tests, etc etc... but the tune itself is not affected or changed at all.

It IS likely to disable your auto up/down on the windows :)

If the auto up/down doesn't work after reconnecting the battery you have to recalibrate it.

1) hold down button until window goes all the way down and continue to hold button for 3 or 4 more seconds.
2) hold up button until window goes all the way up and contnue to hold button for 3 or 4 seconds.
3) repeat on other window.
done!

Just wondering guys, will this affect the push button start transmitter/receiver on the Challenger? I'm going away for 3 weeks and am debating whether or not to disconnect the negative terminal.

What other things, apart from the windows and the learned parameters, will disconnecting the battery affect?

I wouldn't bother disconnecting the battery for 3 weeks.

BatteryTender.

This is the waterproof model of the Junior (about $20 more but you can leave it outside for the winter...)

For those with a RER or REN radio pull your radio fuse before you disco the battery. It is a RRT from Dodge. It says if you do not do this first you could damage the radio.

You might have to reset the abs/esp system with it unhooked for that long. But great question as I have to do battery ground upgrade myself soon!
