Predator upgrade q's/issues

Post by dwr »

Hi,

I have an early Predator thats been used (very successfully) to tune my 2000 manual Firebird Transam, which is quite modded.

I'd like to hardware-upgrade it, however there are a couple of things...

1/
I'm in Dubai, UAE. We don't have typical postal addresses, and in fact the easiest way to send and receive anything is via one's company address (which is still a PO BOX number). I don't want to fill in your RMA (and pay upfront!) and then find that you have an issue with this?

2/
You comment that the pred must be unlocked/returned to standard, before I return it - but I don't think I can do that with my car, too many mods (cam, maf, whole exhaust, emissions, blah blah). -Or do I misunderstand?

Thanks,

Dermot.

once you do the hardware upgrade, you will lose the ability to disable any emmissions items with it anymore... like, disabling the rear O2's, emissions stuff, etc etc... that functionality was removed due to EPA regulations here in the States...

so, you will not be able to disable that stuff anymore yourself - you'll have to get a custom tune made...

if you don't return the car to stock (i.e. restore the original backup) to unlock the predator, they will charge you an additional $50 to unlock it... and then you will also lose the copy of your original backup that was saved on the predator, so you will not have it anymore... once you get the predator back and go to use it, it will read in the modified tune that's on your car now and save that as the original backup...

but, shouldn't be an issue for ya, since it sounds like it wouldn't run on the stock original GM tune anyway at this point with all your mods.... it'll just cost you an additional $50 when you ship it in...

so the total cost for you would be $149 +shipping... ($99 for the upgrade, and $50 for the unlock)...

Hi sorry for delay, it's xmas after all!

Thanks for that information, I didn't realise it would <disable> any functionality if I upgraded it... hmmm not so sure it's a good idea to upgrade any more!

I don't have any cats, air injection etc. It's all history, as they say. I <suppose> that as I already have some config loaded in my car that has all that disabled, I would be ok, it can be read out by the updated Diablo, and written back, I just can't alter those particular things further (not that I see a need to?).

-Perhaps I should just buy another newer Diablo, e.g. secondhand off ebay??

Seasons greetings from UK (I'm a brit, back home for 2 weeks in the snow...)

-D
