05 5.7 Ram Tranny toast ...3x...coincidence?
I have the Diablo Predator (u7137) with the 9t03c (I did do 9r04 but my truck started to act funny so i backed it down to 9t03). Long story short, I drove 150k miles before i bought a predator...within 10k miles my tranny started actin up and eventually failed...I chalked that up to hard drivin and alot of miles... had tranny rebuilt and drove it more milder then the first. But, it too failed within 10k miles..had that rebuilt (luckily under warranty from the tranny shop)....now, bein gun shy because of the first 2, I 'babied' the 3rd tranny, however, that too failed under 10k miles and now I'm back at square 1 with truck at tranny shop.... I'd like to think that it's only a coincidence that all these failed tranny's happen to fail while the predator was installed. I've read other threads in different Dodge ram forums saying the same thing about diablo and trannies. With currently 174k miles on my 05, this is my daily driver...need to know what and why because I can't afford any more tranny mishaps... any info please,
thanks...fred valdez

Are you making any adjustments to the tranny settings when you load the tune?

Hey Fred. We spoke before. I know this is a coincidence, but i'm having my tranny rebuilt as well. 2nd and 3rd gear clutch pak are gone.chefred112 wrote:I have the Diablo Predator (u7137) with the 9t03c (I did do 9r04 but my truck started to act funny so i backed it down to 9t03). I know this has nothing to do with the preditor, but i do beat the heck out the tranny. Like for example, I have 456 rear end with 17's. Stock. I'll be rolling at say, 30mph and floor it, it causes the rpm to raise to maybe 5000 and when i hit first, no traction till 3rd. When cruising at 70 and i dump it, again the rpms shoot up to 5000, and when that gear catches, i think its 3rd, your head slams back to the head rest, and the next thing you see is 130....no problem, how much abuse can this 545rfe tranny take without losing functionality?
I know that's not "daily driving" I'm wondering if i'm being too hard on it.

I made no tranny adjustments for the last 2 failures...I babied the the last tranny, no 2nd prime downshifts....I drove my stock tranny hard but after the first failure I've been granny driving since... went to track once compared to when I was stock using another tuner..

I remember that we both have 05's and our Calid #'s are excatly the same except for the last letter.I'm getting a custom tune and was using the 9r03 crom as a base.Just wanted to make sure.Fred i did have a problem with the 9r02 crom ,when i switched to the 9t03c it went away.I did'nt run this crom long until i switched to the 9r03.So not sure if the problem would of reacurred in the c crom. The problem happened after the crom had been in the truck a couple month's.I have not had any issue's on the 9r03 crom even when making tranny adjustment's before i load the tune.Wish we could get this DSP/tranny issue proven or disproven once and for all.Maybe your tranny guy will give us some insight to that.Hope you won't be down long and Good Luck on getting her back up and running.Let us know what you find. Here is what happen to me.

Yea I remember at the beginning... we were part of the very first group to get the predator...I drove around with the 91 canned tune and when I came to a stop, my truck was idling outta whack, the pedal was unresponsive, i could start it in neutral but as soon as i put it in drive it hit hard and stalled...finally after feathering the throttle i was able to limp into a parking lot and program it back to stock...which it then ran fine, then I put the other programmer back on and it worked til I got it home. Diablo put out a revised crom almost immediately and that seemed to work well. Because of the tranny side issues I only adjusted engine parameters from then on out...

That suck's.One of the best thing's about having an 05 is the part throttle shift adjustment's.They really make a big differance in how the truck drive's.(i love em)Fred if you notice in that thread i wasn't loading a tune. All i did is disconnet the battery and that's when it happened.I know this reset the learning adapative's.(only thing that's differant)Not sure if this had anything to do with what happened.I know that there is a differance on my truck from a tune load and a battery adaptive reset. If i disconnect the battery the truck run's like crap until it relearn's.Tune load it's not to bad.Why would it not be there for month's and all the sudden happen.I was thinking maybe there's a differance in the value's it start's with from a tune reset(soft) and a battery dis. (hard)reset. After all it's a computer and these reset's are part of the board's ability's and feature's.I do know if i wasn't paying attention and went out and gave it hell i might of did some damage that would'nt have showed up till later.Glad i did'nt drive it till the probem was gone.Wonder if something like this happened to you using the 9t03c ? Fred,we all want to know what happened and hope you find what caused the tranny failure.I hope your tranny guy gives us some answer's.Doing any tranny adjustment's to the tune should'nt matter. There in the DSP and should be safe to make.Right Mike.
