Newbie here-U7194-Questions?

Hello Group,
I just purchased a U7194 from a local 4X4 shop for my 07 Escalade. Installed the Diablo tune and haven't even driven it yet. I registered the product here online and was reading some posts and thought I would get some clarification.

I have version V9R07 (Part #246145). Looks like there have been several updates since this version and I've read some of the threads to see that there have been issues. I did not buy the PC interface cable but appears as if I will need it so I will order that yet this weekend.

Saw in one of the threads that my current version tune might not even be as good as the updated GM "tune" that the dealer would have done (last summer).

What are your suggestions on getting the best out of the tuner/truck?

I have added a CAI (GM Performance Parts) and plan on adding a catback sometime soon (GM Touring).

install the diablo tune (make sure you're using good 91/93 octane gas), put on about 75-100 miles, then do some data logging and get your fueling adjusted correctly...

Thanks LEW! Rumor here is that YOU are the man! I live in Wisconsin and have extreme temperature differences throughout the course of the year. Will the temperature affect the variables I'll be changing or would you recommend changing parameters with the weather?

hahahaha... thanks ;)

the cold weather will affect the fuel trims somewhat... usually, you'd want to get the slope adjustment done during the warm summer weather, and then during the cold winter weather you can adjust the slope down another -1% from the previous adjustment...

but, getting them adjusted at any time will still be an improvement over however it's running right now....

just re-check it when the weather gets warmer/hotter out...

Thanks Lew,

I saw somewhere that you had a link for a decent price on the PCI interface cable but can't find it again. Either that or the price changed today on the online store? I thought I saw it on today for $34.99 but just looked and it's now $49.99. Could also be that I'm just losing my mind/memory?! :)

Thanks Lew...just ordered.

One more thing...I was reading the thread about the "U7194 can't update to V9R12" and saw that you posted the tunes were updated for increased performance as of V9R8 and higher. With me having V9R7 what options do I have as it sounds like there are upgrade issues for downloading newer revisions as the file sizes are too large. Should I attempt an update to R8 when my cable arrives or would you say I'm better off sticking with R7 and doing some logging and adjusting levels that way or both?

Thanks!

If your predator is new enough that it came with 9r07, then it will probably be able to handle the updates.(Although wait for Lew or somebody to tell you for sure because I am not positive on this)

no real need for you to update to anything newer for your 2007 vehicle....

not sure about the r10-r13+ updates working for you... but you should be able to update to 9r08 if you want... just make sure you restore the original backup to your truck first, before you update it...

of course, you could always just get a custom tune and have something better than what's available via any update ;)

http://www.eprowebdesigns.com/DiabLew_Tune/ there's a link to some testimonials on there you can check out too...

also, check out this thread... I got this guys escalade MOVIN' with a custom tune!!

Newbie also - just got U7194 on Thursday. Came loaded with r911. Updated it to r913 (on a Win 7 machine no problems) and installed this morning on an 09 Suburban 5.3l. Installed 87 octane tune with DoD disabled - so far it works great. I'll report back in a week or so on mileage, perforamnce, etc.

Lew--I know it's out there somewhere but is there a tutorial for updating the Predator via the interface cable? I know I set the vehicle back to stock, then I download a file from somewhere on this site, and then using the interface cable I do what?

Looks like I want to update to v.09r08 from my current v.09r07 (as the truck tunes were improved)? From there I will most likely use a laptop to log and then make adjustments accordingly. From reading here it sounds like the U7194 has limited log capability (around a minute or so) and most likely isn't enough time to reflect what is actually happening. The laptop would be best using Excel2007 (expanded table capability). Am I on track?

Wiggy...
I've got a '07 Avalanche that was DiabLEW tuned (that means Lew wrote a custom tune :D ) and it's night & day better than the canned tunes!
Also, being a Northerner myself, I find it better to tweak the slope a couple times per year. One for the summer, as it runs lean, and then again for the winter. I have had about a 4% injector slope difference between the two tunes.

Good luck, and happy tuning!

Brad

Where to get v9r8? Download page only has the most recent revision which isn't what I need.

Thanks Lew! I've got v9r08 loaded to my desktop now and I'm trying to update the tool but DSDownloader doesn't respond once I get the popup to cycle the power to the Predator. It's doesn't recognize that I have cycled the power. Using DSDownloader version 2.2.1.4 via this website. Any suggestions?
