05 Sierra 5.3 2WD....

I got a brand new Predator last month. It came updated correctly. I love the performance sooo much! What a wonderful product!!

So, I have my LTFTs dialed in correctly, and Im using the "Predator Tune".... It doesnt say "93 or 91 Tune".... It just says "Predator Tune"...

From reading old posts, I heard that "Predator Tunes" are for 91 octane, and that I can raise WOT timing 10% if I have 93 octane available. Is this true??

Im in Michigan and we have 93 and even 94 octane up here. I typically only use 93. The truck runs perfect on the 93 but I was wondering if I should raise WOT timing.

Also, if you say I can raise it, will the truck be faster at WOT after raising the WOT timing??

Thanks! A++++ for a great product!

you can give it a shot... add 2* of timing, then do a WOT data log and check for knock retard...

if there's no knock retard in the data log, you're good to go... if there is, then back down the timing adjustment...

Thank you Monte..

Question number 1 = I assume to add 2* of timing in the predator I would add (+2) on the predator screen correct?

Question #2 = To check for WOT KR, I would log data in the same ways I did my LTFT correct? Which parameters should I be looking at to check for KR? Pardon my ignorance here. How will I know how much to change in order to rid KR?

Unfortunately, I do not have the Predator Cable so while doing my LTFTs, I simply watched the screen as I drove on level ground at 2000 rpms. Can I "watch the screen" again to do the WOT log? What parameter should I be looking at?

Thanks again Monte!

#1 - yes, correct...

#2 - log knock retard... if you have any, the value is in degrees... so, if you're getting a KR value of 2.5, then it's pulling out 2.5* of timing, so reduce/subtract your timing in that area...

#3 - I wouldn't be watchin the predator screen while going WOT hahaha... you need to watch the road in front of ya...

the parameter you need to watch should be called just Knock Retard... not 100% sure for those older vehicles...

OK Thanks so much Monte. I will try this...

Also, if I add 2* and get no KR, then can I add another 1* (3* total) and check for WOT KR again? OR.... is 2* the highest I should raise it?

sure, you can try adding a little more at a time... just make sure to keep checking for any knock retard...

Thanks so much.... Last question.......

Must I be on level ground for the WOT log or can I charge up or down a slight hill??? I will have a passenger watch the data on the predator as I drive. I assume they need to watch for KR and ALSO watch at what RPMs I get the KR correct???

Thanks so much Monte!

if you dont have someone to ride with you to watch for KR, save the log on your predator and you can view it after you make your run.. When i am adjusting wot timing i will just log RPM, spark advance and maximum knock retard. The log viewer is a pretty simple feature to use and works quite well. any other questions just post up!

yeah... you say you have a brand new predator... so it should be on a 9rXX revision, and it should be able to save the data log... so, don't need anyone to ride with ya if you can't find someone...

just select the Real Time Data, Watch & Record.. select the parameters to log, then go...

make sure the truck is up to normal operating temps... you always want to make sure the vehicle's up to normal operating temps before doing any logs... otherwise the data won't be correct...

and as long as it's only a slight hill, that's fine... but don't do it going DOWN-hill... do it going UP... cuz the amount of engine load will be different/less if you're going down...
