so what do i need to expect when installing for the first time on GM. Do gauges flash back and forth with a lot of dinging? does it automatically turn stabilitrak and traction control off?

Dinging....YES automatically turn stabiltrak and traction control off...NO
you can turn them off yourself by using the control button on the console.

It could be different with the trucks. When I tune mine, i get some of the gauges sweeping back and forth with some dinging. I also get the stabilitrac turning off or asking me to service it, service trailer brake controller and maybe some other things. All normal I would guess.
