High EGT's

I have a new 1770 with the latest crom installed on the tuner. I have a 2001 F-250 (7.3) with cold air intake, fuel mods, and 4" exhaust. I installed the extreme tune and noticed that when I was standing on the throttle, I was getting some high EGT's. They were about 1250 at one point in 2nd gear at 3K RPM.

Is there any tunes that will give me the same power but will lower the EGT's?

What is safe as far as EGT's are concerned?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris:

Is your probe mounted pre- or post-turbo.

Pre-turbo 1200° i s okay for very short periods. Figure your limit is ~ 200° less for post-turbo mount.

The probe is mount post-turbo read the drivers side header.

What do you consider a short period and how much EGT heat is too much?

Are you saying it is in the exhaust manifold, driver's side? Then that is pre-turbo (exhaust gas from your manifold spins the impeller, then goes out the exhaust).

I do not claim to be an expert; you can PM and I'll provide you with links to lots of good reading.

1200°F meausured where you are at, no more than 30 seconds or so. Extra heat and /or duration could lead to a melted piston.
