03 Cobra "Did not detect ignition"

Went to install the Diablosport performance tune and having a little trouble. It won't save my stock tune and when it goes from "turn ignition off" to "turn ignition on" it recongnizes that I turned my ignition on but tells me it can not detect ignition. Then tells me to check for an aftermarket chip. I know there isn't an aftermarket chip.


What gives?

If there is no chip, are you sure there is no tune on the PCM other than the factory Ford tune?

There is no chip and no other tune. Just to make sure my buddy brought over his Granatelli Fuego and uninstalled it off his car and installed it on mine no problem. We uninstalled it off my car and still no go with the Predator.

There has got to be something else going on here. I bought the car from a friend, after he got a GT500. I know for a fact there was never a chip or tune installed in it.

When you turned the key "on" did you turn the key to the second click just before the starter engages? I was a little unclear when I loaded the program.

Do you have any aftermarket electronics on the car? I had an issue like this on a car with NEXUS guages and I had to wait for them to power down completely after I turned the key to the off positon. They had a delayed shut off that back fed power to the car and the Predator never saw the key cycling. Just a thought!

I don't understand why the Fuego would work and this won't.

It senses something because when it tells me to turn key to ignition there is no hitting continue it just waits for me to do it. As soon as I do it, thats when the message comes. If I don't do anything no message ever comes. It just says something along the lines of turn key to ignition.

I just need to know what are my options on this thing. Obviously your product works on Cobra's I see it everyday. I ethier have a defective unit or my car is defective.

I bought this thing awhile ago and waited for my warranty to expire. Warranty expired now I tried to use it and no-go.

If I call in is there something we can do over the phone?

Yeah bud, Please call in first thing in the morning. Try to have the Predator hooked up to the car when you call.

Just to update everyone. Called today and confirmed I was doing everything right. Still no go. I need to RMA this thing back but wife bought it for me as a Xmas gift and I waited for my factory warranty to run out. Well long story short I have no receipt and the wife doens't seem to remember where she got it from online. I tried to reflash the thing last night with DS downloader and it keeps failing on packet 2. So now everytime I boot this thing up it says it's missing it's operating system. Ohh ya and the screen is really dark and can only be seen at an angle. This thing is F-up bad. So I open up the connector end to make sure the wires and still soldered. Everything looks good no burnt up stuff or broke wires.

I am calling it quits since I don't want to spend 100 dollars extra, after the wife paided around 380 she said. I got no uses out of it and now its totally useless and won't even read trouble codes. If anyone wants it, it will be in the trash can probaly on Monday come by and grab it. Hell even if it works I don't think I want this particular one installing fuel maps on my Cobra. Probaly fistle-fart halfway through and not let me install the original back on. Rendering my car and predator close to the same, useless.

Lesson learned keep receipts.

I too have a 2003 cobra and fortunately didn't have any problems with the install. Each programmer has a serial number so Diablosport should be able to verify the time frame when sold and which vendor it was sold to. Maybe you could then contact the vendor or a least get a receipt.

Either way, Diablosport made the unit so they should be willing to exchange it for a new / refurbished unit.

LineC, When you install the update make sure the baud rate is 57600. If it says "application missing or corrupt" you just need to reload the .crom file and it will be back to normal. I am not sure of the strategy on the fuego but the Predator verifies the pcm is stock before it will allow itself to flash the PCM and that may be an issue. I have seen other brands of tools leave what we call "watermarks" in the stock file when they return the car to stock and this will create an issue when you try to load a Predator onto the car. I don't think this is your issue but it may be the reason the fuego worked. We rarely hear of issues like this considering the volume of Predators on the market, so don't feel like it is a characteristic of the product. They are quite reliable. Please do whatever you can to find that receipt and get that Predator sent back so we can fix you up!

Does an Ebay invoice count as a receipt? She said she bought it online through ebay and it came in a new box but I dunno if he was a authorized vendor. I can pull that through my history but his packing receipt is long gone.

If not I am probaly gonna try to find a SCT. Just one of those things I am sure this is a great product and you all have been quick to offer help. Just don't like this thing at the moment.

Sounds like you may be using the wrong .crom file.
On the downloads page of the U7142 it tells you which .crom file you should be using based on the tools bootloader.
It sounds like you should be using the 7r12d file for use with tools that say 'booting cobra'.

LineC, Yes it sounds like you have the wrong file. My bad, I should have asked about that! Somehow there are two bootloaders for those tools and you need to load the Cobra bootloader file located here.

However, if I were you I would search for some proof of purchase even if it is the Ebay records and contact our sales department. Just tell them this is the first time you have tried to use it and the screen is black. It sounds like it is almost unusable based on that issue alone. I'll refer them to this post and they'll be able to see the troubles you have been through and hopefully we can get you fixed up!

LineC, An Ebay invoice qualifies as a receipt, if you can find it tonite call Abby at her direct line first thing in the morning @ 561-961-2400 and she can tell you if they are an authorized dealer or not and hopefully help you out.
