question for diablo guys about 02 sensor
Hey guys,
I plan on doing headers and an ORY pipe but before i get the parts and do the install i want to experiment with the 02 delete in tuning. in my county we only have the obd2 plug in test and we are allowed to have 1 status monitor in the not ready position and still pass(in theory). Right now i don't have a CEL for any reason but a little while before my inspection i would like to find some one to do an 02 delete in the tuning and see if i can can pass inspection with that status monitor in the not ready position. do you guys think that this will work? i hope it does because if it doesn't i will probably just do shorty or mid headers instead of longtubes.

You can not disable the Upstream O2 and have your engine run properly. The Downstream O2 sensor, after the cat is what I hope you're refering to.
I know DS has made recent updates to some calibration templates to allow the Rear O2 to be disabled and not have a 'readiness" issue. My car it seems to work just fine. No light.
The prior method of disabling the rear O2 was to increase the coolant temp to activate it to say 300F. Since the coolant temp could never reach this high temp, the PCM would never use the rear O2,,but it also caused the OBD readiness issue during inspections.
You'd have check with a CMR tuner to see if the option is available for your specific Calibration ID.

We have yet to find a way to make this happen in the HEMIs....

RE: Re: RE: question for diablo guys about 02 sensor
but if i can get away with one status monitor not being in the ready state, per texas law, if my o2 sensor was the only system not ready i could maybe still pass. that's why i'm thinking about experimenting with this next time i get my inspection done, anyone know who can will turn off my 02 sensors for cheap?

There are 2 rear O2 sensors, disable them and you get 2 not readys=fail.

O2 Simulators might be another route to try. I bought an O2 sim but have yet to try it. I want to get a few other mods done first.
There was a company years ago that made them for the GM F-Bodies. Back then you could get them through Jegs. They are no longer available. But the curcuit was eventually pasted all over the internet and now they are sold by the dozen on Evil-Bay.
I paid $40 for mine.
From the research I did, one sim can replace two O2 sensors since the PCM is only looking for an oscilating .2-.7 volt signal. But don't take my word for it, research it to be sure.
EDIT: These O2 sims will only work for replacing narrow band O2 sensors.

i have already looked into this, for these trucks its either mechanical sims(non foulers) or custom tuningmy05hammer wrote:O2 Simulators might be another route to try. I bought an O2 sim but have yet to try it. I want to get a few other mods done first.

electric sims don't work, the pcm can sense they are their by the generic voltage patterns. it takes like a month but after that they are worthless. there has been a few guys on HTC that tried some off ebay and none of them work for long. Even Dan at Fastman says electric sims on a hemi ram will not work

I suppose it depends on weather you have the wide band sensors or not. From what I found, the early 5.7's had wide band sensors in which case, no they won't work. If they also don't work for the narrow band sensors, but work for a month. No big deal. I can reset the codes with PCMSCAN but would rather not have to do this.bighemitex wrote:i have already looked into this, for these trucks its either mechanical sims(non foulers) or custom tuningmy05hammer wrote:O2 Simulators might be another route to try. Thanks for the heads up on this. I have a plan for making it work without having to reset the trouble code once a month.
I have noticed through logging with the PCMSCAN, that the primary and secondary sensors do just about the same thing under WOT. So if I was to switch from the sim to a fixed .7 volt signal with a peddle mounted switch for WOT, then the secondary sensor inputs would be reading a voltage similar to what I am seeing in the logs. Since I use WOT at least once every time I drive the truck it will be a varied signal.
Can't hurt to try it.

bump mike, i only have one rear o2 sensor. does that change your opinion on if this could work?

I guess if it is just one, yes, it could work assuming you can have one not ready.
