PCM Replacement

Needed warranty work done on my GTO due to a cruise control issue. What it has come down to is that the PCM needs to be replaced. The dealer is going to replace the PCM under warranty and it will have the stock tune.

I will need to upload the latest tune to the car since it wont run correctly with the stock tune. Will my Predator work with the new PCM? When I go to the dealer can I simply plug in the Predator and upload the tune? Will I have to unlock the Predator and start over or will it mate up to the new PCM? What issues can be forseen? My concern is the Predator locking up the car since the PCM is new.

The car is currently at the dealer and they are swapping out PCM's so I have no access to the car. I wont be able to restore the stock tune that I backed up over a year ago. If the new PCM has a different stock tune than the one I backed up, will that cause any issues?

Spoke with my CMR tuner and he suggested plugging the Predator and backing up the stock tune then uploading the custom tune. Will it over-write the stock tune on the Predator or cause any conflicts? I have the original stock tune backed up on my PC as well. He assumed the dealer would use the same VIN number in the new PCM. Is that how the Predator is married to the car, via VIN number?

I am nervous as hell and dont want to mess this up especially since the car is at the dealer.

Before you do anything after you get the car back, you will need to give us a call with the tool powered up.

Please keep in mind that the backup needs to be restored before any trip to the dealer in the future.

I had the PCM replaced at the dealer today and when I try to load the stock tune the Predator prompts, "incorrect vehicle". I contacted my CMR tuner and he tried to call you guys at Diablosport but he missed by 30 minutes (5:30pm your time). Is there anything we can do so I can load the custom tune back in? The car runs with the stock tune but has three codes and runs horrible. I would like to use the car on the 4th but cant really drive it the way it is. I am back in the office now so if you wouldnt mind sending me info on how to get the Predator to communicate with the new PCM I would appreciate it.

Thats impossible since it has heads, cam, and alot of porting done to it. The car right now has the stock tune but barely runs.

When Gary and I tried to install the custom tune the same error occured. He asked Johan who found out that GM has updated the firmware on the PCM's. The Predator version 8r07 is not compatible with it. Johan is going to make an update to 8r08 in 3-4 weeks.

I tried to backup the stock tune but again the Predator does not work with the new PCM. Therefor I cannot backup the stock tune. Will it be faster to just send in the Predator and my PCM? Can you guys flash the PCM to the old stock version? It has been nagging me all day that the car is a paperweight for at least 3-4 more weeks. What other options do we have? I am pretty bummed about the whole deal. Had alot of car cruises and track time setup for this month. Please let me know

they had to replace the whole PCM??? that doesn't seem right... it should have been just a software update to the existing PCM... unless they didn't know what they were doing and they hosed the PCM on ya... so THEN they had to replace it...

This is an unfortunate situation, but the only solution for now is to wait until we can get the new calid supported.
GM will occasionally release new calibrations like this, but they do not give us a call to let us know. We have to find out just like anyone else, and then we do whatever is necessary to add support for that calibration.

Please try to be patient with us while we do this update.

We were testing this today and were unable to reproduce the issue on the bench.

Yes, there is a new PCM in the car. On the GTO it is on the fender well when you open the hood and it is definetely a new one. For this particular dealer it must be easier to just change parts instead of figuring out the issue. Not cool.
