Trinity & LC-1....HELP!!!!!

Post by YKPizzaGuy »

Ok guys Harrison and I have been trying to get my Lc-1 to hook up to my Trinity all day...I have Vid and pics to show too....First off I have a 6 wire LC-1 not the 7 wire...( I will include of the wire info) also I have the plug that Diablo sent me and after testing it its the red wire for analog one and the green is the ground...the white is analog 2 ( as per the pic of the plug)..In the first vid I had the red analog wire from the plug hooked to the Yellow wire on the Trinity but after talking to Harrison he looked and told me his was hooked to the Brown analog 2 wire.( as per vid 2) then we thought that it might have been a grounding issue so I moved the ground to several spots and same results...so what Im going the do is gut it all out and reinstall it...just to make sure there are no loose wires or conections ...Now if anyone has any input on this PLEASE feel free to chime in...

Thanks
Ross

Hmm...doesn't LegMaker have an LC1?

FWIW, post up here:

These guys all seem to have WBs connected to their Trinity.

Well I just tried it and same result....At this point im going to need a real STEP by STEP hook up for dummys type of guide to follow..because reading over the forum stuff there has to be info that might be obvious to most but Im missing....so if you can find or post a..." this wire to this wire" type of set up thats going to help...I know this should not be this hard but im lost as to WTF Im missing....

Oh yes and I forgot to mention that who ever gets this working for me there is a free Pizza in it for you :D

I just fought this same problem..only with the XD-16 gauge acting crazy

I think your LC-1 isn't calibrated correctly. Looks like it's in calibration mode if it's jumping around like that with the engine off.

The default settings for the LC-1 output 2 (brown wire) are perfect for the Trinity

LC-1 brown wire -> Trinity plug tip (analog 1 input)
The other wire from the Trinity plug goes to ground. Ground it with the white and blue wires from the LC-1

The black wire coming from the LC-1 is for calibration use only. It's not a ground wire. Why they made it black is beyond me. This black wire should have a switch and LED. If you have a another gauge like the XD-16 then the black LC-1 wire is not used. The XD-16 has a button built in for calibration.

- Grounds - All grounds from the LC-1, XD-16 gauge and any LC-1 analog outputs used (say to Trinity) need to be grounded together. I soldered them all together and ran a 14 gauge wire out through the firewall to a stud on the back of the drivers side cylinder head.

The LC-1/Sensor calibration MUST be open air. This means you have to take the sensor out of the bung.
Yes..you need to climb back under and take it out to start from scratch. Been there..cursed, moaned and complained

Read section 3 and 4 in the lc-1 manual (pdf)

Start from scratch.
1) Disconnect the sensor from the LC-1 box
2) Remove the sensor from the bung ( there's no way around it)
3) Power up the LC-1 for 15 seconds without sensor. Turn it off. This resets it
4) With the sensor out of the bung and in open air, hook the sensor back up to the LC-1
5) Turn it on and wait 2 minutes ( this is when it's going all over the place)
This calibrates the sensor warmup and heater
6) leave the power on and ground the lc-1 black wire for 3 seconds and unground
7) wait a few minutes while it calibrates

Now reinstall the sensor back in the bung
Never power up the lc-1 without the sensor attached unless you plan on doing an open air calibration

My problem was I mounted the LC-1 inside the care. I calibrated the sensor in open air sitting inside the car as per the instructions. I removed the sensor and started the car to get it back up the ramps to put the pipe/sensor in. I then reconnected the sensor and my XD-16 gauge was going balistic showing readings like you were seeing on the Trinity. What I didn't realize at the time is when I started the car with the sensor disconnected the LC-1 reset itself and threw the calibration out the window.

I started from scratch and did the calibrations again and it worked perfect.

What the LC-1 needs in it's design is a reset wire. That and the instructions jump all over the place. They tell you to do something and in the next section it's explained differently

Well looks like all I needed to do was the open air calibration....thanks again Den as soon as you said that i was like DOH!!! im a dumb ass..

anyways so no one has a problem like this again here is how I have mine hooked up

From the DS plug the Red wire to the Brown wire on the LC-1....then I hooked up the Black and Green wire from the DS plug to the White ground on the LC-1....there is some setup on the trinity that you need to do to make it get the right reading...its under the options on the Trinity...hell i think ill make a vid and post it on here ....:)

Then I did the open air cal and it was all good...

Thanks again to Harrison and Den for the help :D

here is the vid to set up your analog on the Trinity

Good work guys.

FWIW, I installed an LC1/XD-16 combo in a car a few weeks ago and I was ready to hurt someone 3 hours later when we finally got the thing properly calibrated....fun!

Wish I would have seen this thread sooner Ross! I have the exact same setup as you and Harrison and it works perfectly. My install was a breeze. The only thing different that I did was I set my LC-1 to samle at 1/12, so that it will sample a lil slower so that the XD-16 gauage and the Trinity are pretty much matching and reading the samething at the same time. I found that if you leave the LC-1 on instant reposne that the logging on the Trinity will be very Jumpy. Glad you got it worked out man!!
