PT Cruiser GT Turbo

Post by Flakdodger »

I am having a problem with the 93 octane tune in my Trinity.

I am running a 2005 PT Cruiser GT with autostick, Stage 1 and magnaflow 2.5" exhaust, K&N filter and a Stage 2 wastegate.

The car runs smoothly with the stage 1 tune, but when I put the 93 octane tune in it runs lousy. I am seeing excessive knock with no power.

Is it possible the 93 octane tune is corrupt?

I have tried several times with no change disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes after each install.

We need more info about the car. Are there any codes? What do you mean it runs lousy? Are all vacuum lines hooked up? You should be running the same wastegate as your PCM, so in your case the stocker.
The apostrophe does not mean "Look out, here comes an S"!

"I couldn't care less" means it is impossible to care less - "I could care less" just makes you look stupid.

All vacuum lines are hooked upped and ziptied down. No Codes. I had the same results with the stock wastegate. The stage 2 wastegate only differs from the stock in that it holds boost above 10psi better.

It runs fine with the Stage 1 tune with stock and stage 2 wastegate. That is why I was wondering if the 93 octane tune was corrupt somehow.

We had to reset my Trinity after I wrecked my SRT-4 because I could not get the stock tune back in it to use on another vehicle.

Here is the 93 tune that is installed. It dies out from too much fuel at full throttle

Even a slightly stiffer wga won't work well for you.

On a lighter manual trans(lower gearing) SRT, they work ok but on your heavier automatic its going to overboost like a mofo. The rate of change in RPM in each gear affects boost considerably in terms wga control. You didn't say it was overboosting, but it should be.

I suspect its overboost, causing lean A/F and the excessive Knock retard is causing the drop in performance. Also the Torque mangement associated with the trans control could be freaking out too.

Using the stock WGA should improve things.

I can't open your tune file to check it without your "orginal backup"

I added the original backup to my post above. Boost has never gone above 18psi. I just updated the Trinity and have re installed the 93 octane. I will drive it a few days to let the PCM adjust then I will post a spark-fuel log unless you want other info in the log file.

You really need to know your real A/F. Despite the 18psi, the excessive know is probably caused by a lean A/F(+12.5:1)

Here's a good step by step checklist for using the 93tune:

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f384/co ... ng-571274/

With the 93tune, the pcm WILL NOT adjust boost levels on it own like it does in the stock and stage PCMs. The 93tune turns off the PCM's Wastegate Adaptive learning to keep boost a little more stable.

Use these PIDs that I've outlined here: http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f384/wh ... og-484265/

I have a good group of guys over at srtforums.com that are well versed in DSP 93tune tuning and more than willling to help you figure this out. I'm sure Mike won't mind if we steal you away

No kidding about the A/F. I am waiting for a Innovate LC-1 to get here so I can see what my A/F ratios are. I learned that from my SRT-4 days. Once that is installed I will get some logs to work with. I already have your PID list from the SRT Forums. It is great having all of these resources to tap into on these cars! Even for a 65 year old gearhead like me!! ;-)

Have recently installed the Trinity T1000 93perf tune on my 2005 GT PT HO. Aftermarket goodies are K&N Cold Air Intake and the Magnaflow 2.5 exhaust. Under hard acceleration at WOT there is a slight pinging that happens ,two or three times at the same RPM range, and then its gone. Will the checklist and PID outlines you sent to duster360 work for my GT? My CMR dealer is willing to look at the settings but want to put the vehicle on the dyno at 200 bucks an hour and it may take a couple of hours. There are no codes and figure it's all A/F related ...does the Trinity show this on the gauge sets? I am a total newbie to this settings stuff. Is there such a thing as acceptable knock or ping ?

Yes, use Dusters PID list, small amounts of KR (1.0 or less) are OK...

One final question...why is the fine tuning not part of the installation process by my CMR dealer. Just bought the Trinity last Friday.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The CMR dealer is independent and can charge you whatever he likes to tune your car.

Tuning Knock on your own is pretty easy. Its much easier once you have a wideband installed.

Here's some helpfull Knock tuning tipshttp://www.srtforums.com/forums/f384/kn ... ou-534338/

I'd attach a Trinity layout file for you to use but this pos site won't allow .tds file extensions,,,,Mike can you fix this?

Update your Trinity with the attached crom.

Thanks duster but the Trinity was updated just last week when purchased and set up. As for the knock tuning I let the pros do it and probably a good thing as it was going from 3.3 to 6.3 ...yes the numbers are right. Now down to a healthy .5 . The engine was also running very rich but could do only so much leaning out 'cause of the cat converter codes. They figure the computer was getting a running hot signal and then increased the fuel flow to compensate. Does that make sense? The only sad part is it took 2hrs. on the dyno and 400+ bucks outta my pocket. But hey ... guess that's the price of perfection.

The PCM will dump fuel to try to protect the cat when certain parameters are met. I can't remember them off the top of my head.
