What do I need to write MY OWN custom tunes?

I imagine its just a software program where I can enter the parameters that I want to run and that program will output a file that I can upload to my trinity. How much is this program and where can I get it?
Or is there more to it? whatever it is, I would like the ability to write my own tunes. Any information you can ive me to put me in the right direction would be appreciated
