I just purchased my predator and am getting ready to hook it up. It came with ver. 9r15. Is that adequate for my 2010 Chev Avalanche? Or do I need to upgrade. Just don't want to brick my ecu.

Thanks

That should work, unless your cals were not added until 9r17.

Um.....cals?

Would it hurt to download the newer revision? I was told there was problems for some vehicles in some revisions....

hook it up to your vehicle and install a tune.. .if it gives you a message that your calibration is not supported, then do the update to the latest 9r17 revision...

it if does work, then there's no need to update...

Thanks Lew,

BTW, the guys at the Avalanche forum tell me I need to get a custom tune from you. How do I go about doing that?

Is there a custom tune for 2008 avalanche 5.3 4 speed?

yes, I do custom tunes for any GM vehicle....

you'll gain even better throttle response, acceleration, stronger/harder pull, etc etc... and if you can keep your foot out of it, usually even better mileage too hehe...

I replied to your PM...

Speaking of Avys, Lew, don't suppose you have a way to force an otherwise "broken" Predator to pass one of your tunes through do ya? I finally have enough spare change to get a tune (at the new price lol) but it would take a hell of alot of Everclear and Bacardi 151 to drink myself into buying another $300 Predator after receiving pretty much 0 help with the one I already have. Not to mention the complete lack of warning when a model is going obsolete is annoying, to say the least... If I bought another and it ended up obsolete a month or two out of warranty like my current one did and I got the same treatment, I'd have to result to going psycho on DS :twisted

If not, let me know when you get time. If I can get at least $100 for this thing, I could actually get another brand spankin new predator for $150... that's mildly do-able (I'd still have to take some shots first though haha). Hope I can find where I backed up my stock tune though... it's on a couple of disks somewhere ;)

hahaha...

well, if it's "broken" and you can't get it to work/connect with your truck, then having a tune on it won't do ya much good.. cuz it won't be able to install, hehe...

never got that wire issue figured out/soldered???

what revision is it on?? is it an older one on a 2.xx revision?? the $99 upgrade deal would be doable for ya... they swap out all the internals with the whole new setup...

if it was a newer one already, didn't you send it to diablo to get fixed/replaced???

The thing has been collecting dust so long, I don't know what revision it is haha. Whatever model came right before the "rift" where it couldn't be upgraded with the new Croms (I don't remember which... it happened somewhere between CROM 9r09 and 9r14 I think).

I soldered it, but there's something else bonkers with the thing. What never made sense is how a Predator that spent so much time stationary had any problem at all =/ I could see if I had dropped the thing, but this thing spent 98% of its lifespan sitting in one spot lol.

Anywho... all I can recall is that it's a U7194, and it went out of warranty about 2 months before that rift.

k... so it's probably somewhere between 9r08 and 9r10...

well, if it can communicate with your ecm through the OBD port and works, then yeah, we can do a tune for it...

BUT... would I trust it the way you say it's been working, or not working heh - no...

cuz we will need to be doing a bunch of tune installs to the truck, and data log recording... so if the connection's no good man, we don't want to risk something happening to your ecm man...

I agree. Anywho, there's no upgrade program in place for such a "new" outdated model, right?

correct... no upgrade program for 'em...

I think you could send it in to be repaired, and it'd be like $100... according to the RMA form...

or, you can trade it in and get $100 credit towards the purchase of a Trinity... hehe ;) and then not have to worry about future support anymore - cuz it will have it...

Haha, I know that won't happen. I wanted one at one point, but now that I see they'll actually all of a sudden stop supporting a given hardware revision of a device, it's a no go. An obsolete $300 device pisses me off. An obsolete $600 ($500 with the credit or my discounts though) device just might make me commit murder.
