MAF Readings!!

Post by TDG.88 »

i am running a 2005 mustang GT manual car currently modded with the predator and jlt intake and matching tune. i ran an engine diagnostic test and took info from a point where i was in 3rd gear @ 4152 rpm. the MAF reading was @ 21.21 gm/s which ive researched to be extremely low for given the circumstances, but i am no expert in "gm/s" please let me know where my maf should be reading

Do you have your Traction Control on? What is the measured throttle angle?

I just checked one of my logs, and in first gear, not spinning I got 178.1 g/s at about 4150 rpm. This was with the measured throttle wide open 100%.

When shifting from 2nd to 3rd with the Traction Control engaging it hit 87.23 g/s at 4150.5 rpm. This was with about 25% throttle. Keep in mind my foot was depressing the gas all the way. The traction control will close the throttle with more than mild wheel spin.

Hope this helps.

hey thank so much for your response very helpful, i beleive however that the traction control was off i usualy drive with it off always and i can realy feel it when it kicks in, but i will make sure, i need to see what the throttle body angle was i didnt see a spot for that in my reading.

hey FYI my MAF voltage is only reading 2.1 which is also way low, im starting to think that if the traction control wasent off, which by considering the two number would appear that it wasent, i got a good problem here.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. Look it up, and be delicate with your technique. Aftermarket cotton/oil filters can gum it up if over-oiled...

i just put a new maf sensor in a couple weeks ago jet performance series, and the problem didnt get any better, the who9le reason im running these tests is because ive lost some serious accel;eration and what feels like torque, especially when warm or at operating temp. my mustang drives like a normal mom sedan with no real power but still fully functional and reliable with no codes, i think its because of this, the maf isnt working properly possibly in the wiring harness, ill check the wires, i know some one had a chip the kind u splice into the gray wires and maybe their connection job is failing i hope thats it.

Try the stock MAF sensor. The only other thing I can think of is the Charge Motion Control Plates are not opening, but I would think that would throw a code if that was the case. Not sure about the splice wiring you are talking about, but that could cause bad voltage/metering. Try to return everything to stock and see if the MAF sensor reads different.

Good luck.

ok so i put the stock maf back and factory air box, then i ran the origional back up and the engine seemed like it was reving really slow and the rpms floated a little long to get back down when i coasted for a little bit. i did my readings and found that it read 151 gm/s @3180 rpms... 4.67-8 volts at maf... alot better numbers and with traction control off, but u could definatly tell their was no tune installed, i went to the 91 octane tune after and am running the factory intake for now. i still think my maaf should have a lil bit more voltage to the maf tho right? anyways please analyse and let me know if you feel anything needs attention.
