If I do a cam swap will the canned tune work or will I need a custom tune? The shop in town quoted me 500 bucks for a custom tune... I'm not sure but that seems high.

Yes, cam swaps require tuning, preferably in person from a good tuner.
There is a lot of idle tuning and driveability tuning to do to properly dial in any cam swap.
