U7140/CL7140 - USB adaptor/laptop issues

Post by Cappo787 »

I have reviewed the questions and responses in this forum regarding the USB/9 pin adaptor and laptops. I have had a frustrating night trying to figure out how to get my original backup tune info downloaded onto my laptop. I have done the following:

1. Matched baud rates on downloader, diablosport and computer;
2. Tried each and every com port available (6);
3. Slowed baud rates down (matching all baud rates at 56700);
4. Made sure I had the updated predator v. 8r 37 installed;
5. Purchased two separate USB adaptors (Dynex and Radioshack) - Better results with Dynex (a few packets) but neither worked.

What happens is a few packets show on the computer but the diablosport tuner never gets past 0% processing. Now here is the strange thing, the diablosport put a few KB on the computer during one the attempted downloads which in turn gave the custom tune from bamachips the ability to be uploaded. i was well aware that because the KB's didnt match that it would be rejected by the tuner, which it was. I erased the custom tune because it would not work. However, the entire program was uploaded onto the Diablosport without a problem which makes me wonder what the problem could be.

So I ask . . .why cant i download my original tune onto my laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you check the device manager to see what COM port the cable is assigned to?
Did you install the driver for the cable?
I am emailing you instructions.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Yes I installed the drivers (for both cables). I also checked the device manager and it set the com on 4, which did not appear to conflict with any other device. This was the only com that gave me any reading on packets at all anyway. Also, again I was able to upload the diablosport with no problem, but downloading from it just would not work.

I look forward to the instructions. It has been frustrating to say the least. I appreciate your continued assistance.

No I have not received the email. However I did receive the link in my email that a reply had been made. I am in front of my computer now (home for lunch) so it would be great if it comes in the next few minutes.

Thanks

Well . . . didnt change anything. Coms were matched, downloader was run . . the predator just sticks on processing at 0% and the transfer fails.

In fact, I followed the directions again using my other usb adaptor (radioshack) same message . . . processing 0% overlaying message that states Start PC receive at 115200 . . then transfer fails . . .

Those USB/serial adapters can be problematic. If you have a firend with a serial port on their system, then do your thing there, and buy them a beer.

Ski . . you were right . . did the old school serial port to serial port with the 9 pin cable on friends tower and it worked instantly. That USB/Adapter is a real buzzkill man. Everything is up and running and the Diablosport is working fine!

So us people with up-to-date computers that don't come with serial ports are out of luck? I have a usb adapter and i have the same exact problem, a few packets upload and it gets stuck and the predator says zero, I tried everything!

I have only seen this issue a few times....most of the computers we use here have no serial ports either, so we use serial to USB adapters all of the time. There may an issue with the way your COM ports are setup.

USB-to-serial port adapters are a crap shoot. Sometimes they work, and sometimes not.
Another option is to install a PCI serial port card.
