Why no support for BBK CAI?

Post by Duckhead »

I bought a BBK CAI for my 2007 V6 Mustang several weeks ago. I got a check engine light soon after and fiquered it was running lean. I started running 93 octane fuel and got no more check engine codes. I decided to get a tuner to take care of the problem and chose the Diablosport Predator because of the claims that most CAIs were covered with choices already in the unit. My unit is a V7145 with version V.9r07. There were no CAI choices in any menu that I could find already loaded on the unit?

I installed the 93 octane tune and checked for codes after the first run and both banks thew a lean code though I did not get a check engine light. I started reading posts on this forum and concluded there was no support for the BBK CAI. I did add the 5% to the MAF setting as suggested and now I do not get any codes. My question is why doesn't the advertisements for the predatior list specifically what CAIs are covered? Why no tune for the BBK CAIs. I notice that other folks have tunes for the BBK they are quick to offer on this forum. Are these comprehensive dyno tunes or are they just adding the 5% to the MAF also?

I have tunes for the V6 CAIs available, but we never developed one for the BBK as they claim it is a 'no tune required' CAI. Thus they had no desire to provide one to us to create tunes for, since that would lead people to believe they needed a tune (which, in reality, as you have seen, it does require a tune). Since it is a relatively small CAI, adding 5% puts it really close to where it needs to be, but the custom tunes some provide are tunes they developed on the dyno with these intakes.

Thanks for the quick reply. My car seems to have picked up especially on the low end. The roads have been pretty nasty so I haven't really got to see how she will perform. I plan to go back to the 87 octane tune and try the same 5% adjustment later.
I forgot to mention this car had dual exhaust installed before I bought it. It has the stock pipes on the passenger side and they were cut just prior to "Y" and a new pipe was ran on the driver side to another stock ford muffler. Looks good and sounds pretty good also. There ar no "H" or "X" pipes. Could that contribute to the lean condition also?

I apologize for posting on the Trinity forum. I didn't notice until after I had already posted it.
