Defensive Driving course

Post by Mike_Levy »

Anybody else here ever take the online Defensive Driving course? I'm in the middle of it right now and its annoying the shit out of me. They have these minimum amounts of time to finish a section, and I finish in like a third of the minimum, so I have to just kill like 40 minutes, staring at the screen.

Can't even walk away, because they have these little pop-ups to make sure you're still there and to make sure you are who you say you are, that need to be answered within 60 seconds. And some kind of "biometric test" based on the way you type that pops up at random.

Have to take these stupid courses every 3 years, for insurance reduction, or in my case, to reduce my point total by 4. And personally, I need to take it online at my leisure, because I have ADD and can't sit through a 6-8 hour course in a classroom (I can't sit through an hour, which is why I'm here and have the course open in another window!).

Its nice that they give different ways to take the course. I just wish they'd chill with the times though. People aren't stupid. It doesn't take a freaking hour to read and absorb a few pages of text. Especially stuff thats just a review of stuff we've been doing for years!

I've taken the course but it was in the classroom. 10% off on car insurance, can't ask for more. The renewal for us is a 4 hour class given by my insurance agent. The original class was given by a retired MN Highway Patrol Officer. You're right it is boring, a lot of common sense and the 8 hour class was a pain in the butt literally from sitting there 4 hours at a crack each night. Oh well it is done for now.

LOL.
I had to do one once, did it here at work, but it did not have the live checks you describe, so I was able to walk away for a while in between sections. Id finish a 1 hour section in like 45 seconds ;)

Oh well, I see the pain worth the car insurance discounts. Evil necessity if you want to save some $$ :)

I actually can't even get the discounts. Already have them. Just needed to take it to get rid of the speeding points. Can't risk keeping them on my record, just in case I just some more. In NY if you get 6 points in 18 months, the DMV hits you with an "assessment fee" of $100 a year for 3 years, so the ones I have/had need to go.
