03 lightning u7158 sputtering in cooler weather @ WOT.

Post by ivanivan242 »

I have a u7158 programmer purchased from Steeda w/ the program to work with 12lbs of boost pulley. I just uploaded the newest version r10 and I have always had the programmer set to (93 octane w/pulley.) For some reason when I tried to download the r9 update I received a corrupt file message on the programmer. Mods are BBK twin 65mm throttle body, K&N air filter, Bassani X-catback exhaust and I only run 93 octane.

We have been having cooler weather here in Florida with temps. in the mid 30s-40s. At WOT, when the motor is not up to normal temp and after the tranny kicks down into 2nd gear is when it sputter the worst. After the motor is warm it does not seem to sputter as bad or not at all. The motor used to ping/knock but that has stopped. So far, I have added STP octane boost/injector cleaner and that has seem to help a little.

Thanks for any advise you can give,

Ivan

If you are seeing some knock, you should look into removing some timing to eliminate it.

Why did you try to download the r9 update if you already have the r10? These updates are for different tools, and cannot be cross-applied.

The truck no longer knocks or pings @ WOT. I am assuming the computer corrected the timing.

I tried downloading both updates because I thought they needed to be added.

The truck is sputtering. Sounds like the motor is misfiring or running on 7 cylinders @ WOT only. Other than that the truck runs great. Could it be a fuel/air mixure issue?

Thanks,

Ivan

If you are still running the stock pulley on the blower I would suggest reinstalling the stock tune to see if the issue is still there. If so, there is a mechanical issue with your truck.

I am running a 12lbs boost pulley. (4lbs over stock.) When I purchased the predator from Steeda, it had a custom tune already programmed to run the added boost. No bolts ons have been added since then. I have been running the same set up for over a year now w/no issues. The problems started after I downloaded r10 update. I do not know if the cooler weather mid 30s-40s is having any influence. I am thinking the truck may need to be tweeked.

Thanks
