Predator or Black Bear Performance Tune?

I thinking of buying a Pedator to tune my 2000 Sierra 4.8l auto 2WD but most on the forum I frequent say hand held tuners are a waste of cash and get a custom tune. Would the end result be on par with a Black Bear tune? I like the idea of being able to "play" with the Pedator and still get custom tunes. Are the Predator's custom tunes free?

Thanks in advance!

no, custom tunes are not free... you would pay a diablosport CMR tuner (like myself) to create a custom tune specifically for you/your vehicle...

yes, the custom tune would be comparable to, if not better than, the blackbear tune... depending on whom you have do it of course...

a custom tune is only as good as the person creating it...

Here's info about my custom tuning:

there's a link to a small sample of just some of the "Testimonials" I've received from people I've done my tunes for - makes for good reading, hehe.

OOPS! Sorry I thought they were free. How would someone know they could benefit from a custom tune before they spent $105? I would assume that major changes like cam and head changes would call for a custom tune but would a slightly modified truck with duals and cold air intake benefit? Also can the tow mode be used to run a different tune with or without custom tuning?

I did pull the trigger on a used predator with a V.9r09, cable and power adapter.

Tow mode can't be used like that. There is no place to store a second tune in the truck. Yes Lew's tunes are worth every penny. Read his testimonies and read the forum. EVERYONE loves them, including me.

Thanks for the reply. So would there be an improvement on a slightly modified 4.8l over the predator tuner.

yes, absolutely.... my custom tunes give you gains over and above what the preset tunes do... you gain quicker throttle response, faster acceleration, stronger/harder pull, better mileage, etc etc....

and no, custom tuning is not free... diablosport themselves does not do/offer custom tuning... they have diablosport CMR tuners that offer those services (like me) as a business...

I be in contact with you when the tuner arrives. Basically looking for the best gas mileage and most performance I can squeeze from the 4.8l. You might get a little surprise when you see the ambient temp. is at -30F (if you collect that info?).

Temp and humdity effect things quite a bit. I have a "winter" tune and a "summer" tune and usually change when things get below -10C

So will a CMR tuner charge per tune and will they do a couple for you (spring and summer tunes)? If you had to pay for each tune if would probably be better to wait for warmer weather or can you change certain parameters on the summer tune to compensate for the temp. change?

Sorry for all the questions. The Predator is going to be in this week so I'm exploring it's capabilities before I use it.

some tuners may charge for different/separate tunes...

I do not...

a different tune just consists of different fueling settings... and actually, does not even really have to be done... the fuel trims will be more positive in the winter/colder weather, that's normal... ltft's fluctuate, that's their purpose afterall... haven't changed my settings in 5 years... ;)

winter time, my average fuel trims are more positive... summer time, they're right in the 0 to -2 range, where they should be for that hot summer weather...

either way, 1 or 2 tunes... no worries... ;)

and, you can still make adjustments to a custom tune yourself, using the predator's adjustable parameters, just like with any of their preset tunes... so, you could always do a data log, see where your average ltft's are at, and then adjust the fueling (injector slope) accordingly for the different time of year/weather...
