2005 Dodge Power Wagon 2500 Gas Mileage

Post by powderhoundbrr »

I just bought a new to me truck (above mentioned) and it has a Predator chip installed. I am running a six inch lift with 33's right now as well.

I must admit I am a total newbie to chips although I am pretty handy around the garage so I am thinking that I shouldn't have a problem with it.

Anyway, the mileage I am currently getting is terrible and it looks like the previous owner used the 93 octane pre-programmed setup.

Last night I changed it to to 87 octane set up. Will this help my mileage at all? Are there programs on this site that will get me better mileage. I would like to get the best mileage I can as it is a bit of a bear on fuel so far.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum and I look foward to learning more about this product.

Please no sarcastic comments about the six inch lift and big tires regarding fuel mileage. I know this is not helping but I just want to try to make this truck as efficient as it can be.

MDS?

I guess I am truly showing my ignorance on this stuff. I didn't get a manual for the chip with the truck so I am learning here.

MDS was not available on 2500's. MDS is the multiple displacement system on the 1500s and cars that shuts off half the cylinders to supposedly get better gas mileage

Thanks for that. Is there anything else I can do with the Predator Chip to help with fuel economy? Might I be better to go back to the stock setup or do you think that I would be getting better mileage with the chip?

Hmmmmmm I am getting around 8mpg with the tires and low gearing of the Power Wagon. I would be ecstatic to be getting 11. I am just wondering if there if there is anything I can do with the chip to improve on that.

Some sort of custom tune that maybe takes a bit of my power but improves mileage perhaps?
