'Not Licensed for this vehicle' ??

Post by sxtreme »

I recently bought a used Predator U7135 (v.9r12) and was assured by the seller that it was unmated. When I try to load a tune into my car, a 2007 Charger SRT, it tells me that 'this tool is not licensed to this vehicle', and tells me to unplug. I searched thru the options in the tuner and found that the last tune written was a 'original backup +quick adjust', and it tells me a VIN number. I contacted the seller, and he reassured me that it was unmated properly, but that the VIN I had was his car. He does not know what is happening, and neither do I.
Is this tool still mated to his car somehow even tho his car has the stock tune reinstalled (verified by a dealer, and confirmed when he installed a Superchip)? How can this be fixed? Is it a requirement to pay the 129.00 to get it unlocked by you, even tho its obviously a problem with the unit since he unmated it properly? I dont believe that I (or him) can possibly be responsible to pay for the unlock, when he disconnected it properly, and I cant install it.
Thank you for your time.

He didn't unmate it properly, the "+quick adjust" proves that. He did something in the quick adjust after he restored the backup.

I see... so if I go back, get him to plug it in again, is it possible to unmate it now?

Awesome! Thanks so much for the help. Is there any special procedures? It sounds like he installed a superchip or something...

He'll have to remove whatever he put on, then plug in the Predator. Go to the Quick Adjust menu, select Restore Quick Adjust. That will reset it. Make sure you check the Last Tune Written before you take it off his car.

Don't know why he'd install another device. They're all inferior. DiabloSport is the only manufacturer that offers custom tuning, which is necessary, especially on the Hemi's which like to knock.

Again thanks very much. Unfortunately tho, its all for nothing. Turns out he wrecked the car or something, and he parted it out, so its not available to plug into. He has offered to pay the restore cost for you to unlock it. How is this done? How long does it take? I kind of really want to get this plugged into my Charger!

Call Tech Support with the unit powered up. They'll talk you through doing it over the phone. Takes about 5 minutes.

One of the other Mike's will have to confirm, but I think if you can get proof the car was totalled, they may do it without charging.

Well, more to add... he didnt total the car, he just blew the tranny and rear end, couldnt afford to fix it, and sold it for parts. I guess I am paying to restore it (or he is I mean). How do I make this happen? Call first? Pay first somehow? Is there somewhere on the site to set this up?
Thanks very much,
Mike

Just call in during normal business hours. They can take care of everything over the phone.

Ok, well, dang... good advice, but I didnt get all the info.
This post says 'just call in', they will do it all over the phone. So I do... wait on hold for fifteen mins. The guy on the phone tells me I have to come to the website and request a something or other, wait 3 days, then call in again. Geez... not too happy right now.

Huh? They want you to RMA it? That doesn't make sense. MikeL, why are they telling him to RMA a reset? He's not returning it.

Ya, I called from my car with the predator beside me and my credit card ready, and he told me that I had to go online and submit the form. I guess either way Im out of luck this weekend. I did fill the form and submitted it but I must have messed up my card number because I received an email that it came back invalid. If you dont think I have to submit online, I wont try again, and just call back next week.
Thanks

Thats why I wish Mike L from Diablo would answer. I've never heard of anybody having to RMA it for a reset. I've done it twice, a bunch of other guys have done it, all without an RMA.
