RE: Idle
My tuner set mine to 800 RPM across the board. I set mine down to 650 which I like (when it works).
I have a problem when at a stop, the idle sometimes is 500 RPM then unexpectendly jumps to 800 RPM. What is going on? I suppose I should record it with the data logger. Until then, Is this the timing jumping back and forth maybe? Even with the original 800 RPM tune, it did the same thing, while in closed loop.

RE: Idle
Goodluck. My Car has done this crazy idle thing from day one. With or without the tune and there are plenty of folks with this issue if you search the boars. My dealer has no idea and many members have told me theirs haven't found a problem either. I just live with it. My custom tune does it as well. 500 or 650? who know which one until you stop.

RE: Idle
chaotic has a cam in his car, hence his poor idle and my saying the tune needs work.
if you have a stock cam doing this, there is another issue...

RE: Idle
I am very familiar with cams and what they do, my point is that this is a common trait. My first post on a couple challenger websites was what the heck is up with this idle. Maybe his didn't do it before so that brings up another question. My dealer said they haven't been able to figure it out on the ones they have seen doing it and many members report this same exact scenario. He didn't say his idle was choppy or anything crazy, just that the idle seems inconsistent. I don't think the cam has a thing to do with it. This is a pcm driven problem in my opinion. I am going to send my tuner an email and ask him to look at his tunes and my stock one to see what is casuing it.
Chaotic, please update this if tune work solves it. If it does, alot of us need custom factory tunes.

RE: Idle
Yes the cam is whole other topic. My cam is hardly even noticeable.
This idle thing jumping high and low is irratating to say the least. I didn't notice it before the tune but it might have done it. I drove it to work today during rush hour and it is very noticeable. I did notice this;
While sitting in traffic rolling slowly, the idle = 800 RPM consistantly. Every time I stop (A/C off or on) the idle dips to the tune setting and stays there. Then, when I release the brake and roll, the idle jumps back to 800 only if I tap the gas peddle while rolling. Shifting to neutral set the idle to the tune setting whether the car was moving or not. I'll try making a recording of this and review it in the data viewer.

Re: RE: Idle
I promise both of you that a surging idle in a cammed car has NOTHING to do with a idle issue in a stock cammed vehicle. I havent heard of any idle issues with the Challys, have you seen anyone else report this issue?RonP wrote:I am very familiar with cams and what they do, my point is that this is a common trait. Re: RE: Idle
I promise you, the issue lies in the tune somewhere, regardless of how big the cam is.ChaoticMN wrote:Yes the cam is whole other topic. My cam is hardly even noticeable.

RE: Re: RE: Idle
Mike, this is one of the only car related sites I can get to at work. LOL I will send a couple links from other challengers boards later. Maybe these issues that I am speaking of are not exactley the problem chaotic is having. I have no surging so to speak.
Here is what mine does and it is comparable to others that have posted. I took two other challengers out for a test drive after I had mine and they both did it.
Sometimes mine idles at what I feel is normal and feels good (650-700), but quite often it drops to 500 and feels choppy almost to the point I fear it will shut off. When it does drop to 500 I can do one of the following and it jumps right back up and stays, go to neutral and back to drive, just lightly blip the throttle, or turn on the AC/defrost and shut it back off.
With the AC on, the idle never drops. Sometimes while at 500, it will all of a sudden jump back up on its own and it makes the car leap forward a little if you aren't on the brake hard enough.
Sorry I got off track from the original post. I honestly just decided to live with it as I hate the dealerships screwing with my car. I will email toona and ask him to look at my files to see if he sees something. I have never asked him before because I figured it was something with the "base" software (not sure it that is good terminology or if there is such a thing) as it did it before any tune was ever on.
Thanks

RE: Re: RE: Idle
I have the exact same problem as Ron with my 2009 dodge charger rt. It does it with all tunes including stock. I never noticed it before the predator, but to be fair I only put 3000-4000 kms before I added it. I recently input the 93 cai tune in and it seems to be a little more chaotic. Maybe the predator exhagerates an issue in the stock software.

same on my 09 charger r/t what to the dealer they said its normal BS

RE: Re: RE: Idle
Ron P is right on about describing this issue. Being that I had it tuned at about 3K miles I wasn't sure if it did it before the Predator tune. I think it is just exaggerated now also. I hope to record it soon for evaluation.

RE: Re: RE: Idle
Same issue. The idle bounces down then up. I too found that by turning on the AC the idle will increase.
I have tried numerous idle settings / rpm adjustments and found no difference.
The car does it with or without a tune. "No cam"
