New user w/some questions

Post by Justme »

Hi! I just purchased a U7193 for my truck. Here is my story, and then I have a few questions.

My truck is a 2005 Hummer H2. The 6.0L is all stock. No CAI, no exhaust, nothing. I just put 37x12.50R17 Cooper STTs on it, which is what prompted me to get the Predator.

Pre 37"s stock I got 12 MPG in normal trips into and around town. After the 37"s it dropped to 10 MPG and it would up-shift late on normal acceleration. On a steep hill coming home it was sluggish and took too long to down shift unless you put your foot way into it and forced it to. Then once it down shifted it would hold the gear too long and rev really high before upshifting again.

At this point I have installed the 87 tune with corrected tire size, and have three tanks of fuel through it with the tune. I am now back up to the same MPG I was getting with the stock tires, and it drives as good or maybe a little better than stock. With the tune now the power loss from the 37"s is virtually nill. There is a very slight loss noted on steep hills, but it is very slight.

I have a few questions about the tuner:

1.
It is V.9r11. Is this the latest version, or should it be updated?

2.
Can this unit do anything to the TCS system? I have heard a few people say you could disable TCS with it, but only rumors. I searched here but so far have not found anything. I don't see anything in the menus.

I offroad with the truck for real. It has an alternate TCS setting called TC2. It doesn't disable the TCS, it only allows a little more wheel spin before TCS kicks in. However, I have found that in deep snow, mud, or sand, it still kicks in way too soon and can hinder you getting through something, like deep snow, where you need the wheel spin.

Anyway, so far I am very pleased with the unit. I plan to do some logging and tweeking as soon as I have the time to do it, and see if I can do a little better. I will also give the 92 tune a shot. Eventually I will go all out and get a tune from Lew, as I read nothing but awesome things about him.

Here is a picture of my truck. It is still a work in progress.

1. Yes, thats the latest.
2. Traction control can be disabled in a custom tune.

Thanks! I just finished building a big expedition type roof rack for it that is going in for powder coating on Monday. I'll be doing the grill in black bedliner soon, too.

So when I am ready for a tune from you, then we can take care of the TCS, eh?
