Quick Jerk In Car
Hey Mikel,
I'm not sure if the predator can solve this issue, but I've taken my car into the dealership several times and each time with no success. Basically since I've owned my charger r/t, there has always been a quick jerk(lunge forward) in the car after I press the gas after the vehicles speed has level off or if the vehicle has been coasting. It is very noticeable and annoying. This issue was consistently around the 70kph range before I installed the throttle boost. However, after installing the throttle boost it has brought the problem to the 60-65kph range. Is this a tune issue and can a tune fix it(All canned tunes make no difference) or does it sound like a mechanical problem to you. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: Quick Jerk In Car
Are you sure its not just the torque converter clutch locking?
RE: Quick Jerk In Car
It could be, but I'm not sure, as I'm not overly familiar with vehicles and the mechanics behind them. All I can tell you is that its a pretty noticeable jerk and if you stay in the above kph range it becomes quite annoying, as it will continuously do it. I must also add there is almost a very brief(I'm talking 1/8 of an inch press pedal) dead spot in the throttle at the above speeds. Above and below and the vehicle works fine.
RE: Quick Jerk In Car
dont know if this helps but my 08 ram does the same thing. every ram i have ever been in or driven has had this issue. its just a torque converter issue imo. dk about the trans that is in your charger but i think its the 5-45rfe (same as the truck)

Charger has a Mercedes W5A580 transmission. It has to compete in a very highly competitive segment. Chrysler would never use the 545RFE in it. The 545RFE is a truck transmission and is nowhere near smooth or reliable enough for a car.
RE: Quick Jerk In Car
why not reliable? just wondering

RE: Quick Jerk In Car
My Magnum RT does this from time to time but it has nothing to do with the tune. Sometimes it sounds like someone rear ended me. Pretty loud and abrupt. Fortunatley it does not happen often.
Re: RE: Quick Jerk In Car
The 545RFE has an awful service history. Anytime you hear people talking about how horrible Chrysler transmissions are, its always this one they're talking about.robustRed wrote:why not reliable? just wondering
Do a Google search for 545rfe problems and read about all the problems people have had with them. Be prepared, theres 1.37 MILLION results.
RE: Re: RE: Quick Jerk In Car
damn. never saw that coming. i havent heard a single bad thing from the guys in my area about that transmission. my friend in alven has a lot of engine mods on his 07 hemi ram(556rwhp)(601rwtq) and actualy runs it at the drags like every weekend lol. but has never had a problem with that transmission( yet) 75,000 miles

RE: Re: RE: Quick Jerk In Car
If it is a torque converter should it be as noticeable as it is or do I need to get it replaced or can a tune smooth it out so its not as much of a jerk. Again I only notice it at the above speeds but unfortunately that's the speed limit in town.

I have 109000 on mine and I pull a 24 ft trailer with it and have never had any problem with it. You google any thing and you will get a million things come up.Mike_Levy wrote:The 545RFE has an awful service history. Check the trans fluid level and make sure you use ATF4. How long since it was changed.adbutz wrote:If it is a torque converter should it be as noticeable as it is or do I need to get it replaced or can a tune smooth it out so its not as much of a jerk. Re: RE: Quick Jerk In Car
but still, most of what i read was nothing but good. but the bad thats written about them still does not really out weigh good. its jsut like any other part on a car, if it goes out any number of times, its automaticly considered a bad part by a person or group of people. its kinda like me saying, i went out and bought a cd player and the motor goes out on it so now i am frustrated b/c i spent all this money on it and now i have to post it all over the internet saying that this cd player is crap, NEVER BUY IT OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMES WITH IT. its jsut conformity imo.Mike_Levy wrote:Thats why I said to read them.brandy16 wrote:I have 109000 on mine and I pull a 24 ft trailer with it and have never had any problem with it.
