what should I expect??

Post by craigt »

I have a 2006 chevy 1500 HD with 3.73 gear ratio and the 6.0l V8 I'm using the U7192 bois 6.01 and version 2.05. So with great expections and Hope I put 93 octane fuel in and installed the "Modified Tune" Hoping to see some white smoke or at least hear some tires screaming. From the way the instructions read I turned OFF the Torque abuse mode and the % torque reduction. I left the Upshift reduction on as recommended. FIred the hot rod up and prepared to raise hell  and twist my drive shaft. Well I'm disapointed. The butt dyno doesn't show any change from a dead stop. I get maybe one rotation of tire slippage and maybe a little more (I do Mean a little) above 4000 rpm. The shift is much firmer but thats it. So tell me is the 6.0 that pitiful of an engine? So far I can say....Slower than a 5.7 (stock) and about 3-4 mpg less. Please tell me that I did something wrong. Don't tell me to trade my truck in on a Duramax. A Hypertech programmer makes a night and day diff in a 97 chevy 2500 with a 5.7 The Diablo showes litttle or no change. Maybe I'll get better mileage.

We saw gains of 15-20rwhp on the 6.0 trucks, and big torque gains down low.
Sometimes in a heavy truck it may be tough to feel the difference, but it is in there.

Are you running quality 93 octane fuel?

Well monitoring the Knock sensor I have no timing retard. It's from Murphy's shows its 93 octane. Low down torque Gains would at least break the tires loose better than stock... Right? My Odometer display reads "Reduced Engine Performance" Is this a normal thing or is the ECM fighting the torque managment that I think I turned off. Maybe it thinks it's seeing too much abuse and backing the torque out. The engine shows 208 d F. and the tranny temp is about 180 d F thats where it always stays. I can Tell you that the air temp comming in is 114 d F the ambient here is about 96 d F. I do Have Flowmasters, true dual front to back. I know thats not the best for low end torque but it should be better than stock. FYI all 2.5 inch. But all in all I expected some tire smoke and to be able to keep up with a 06 cummin's 4x4 in stock form. Man I cannot tell you how frstrating this is.

Now I have jacked the timing up and the fuel = Ran Worse
Left timing 15% advanced and Fuel at 0 seems to run better
reduced the fuel (WOT 2 to 4) seems same as above.

Don't have a dyno but any torque gain should show up in the rear wheels.

If you are seeing 'reduced engine power' on the DIC while driving, then there is another issue.
Check trouble codes and clear them if any are present.
If the message is still there, restore the backup and see if it goes away.

no not while driving it sais that right after the "Modified program" and the 87 Octaine program load. befor you turn off the ignition and wait 10 seconds and turn the ignition back on and wait ten seconds. After that it no longer shows "Reduced engine Performance" it only shows immediatly after uploading the tune prior to the finishing steps

hope I put that into words okay!?!

That is fine.
The DIC cycles through all of its messages during the flash process, no biggie.

okay well I think I figured out my problem. I expected the torque to show up in the rear tires. But my First gear is so tall that it doesn't shift until 40 sumthin MPH. and this truck has a 3.73 gear. Don't get how they (MFR) gets away with that on a 3/4 ton but oh well it does help once your rolling 70 to 80 in less than 3 seconds in a 4000+ LB truck is pretty good. So now I have Jacked the timing and changed the shift points on the performance tune can I save this tune and reinstall it later? I have to detune to 87 octane and play with that one... I have to be able to afford the gas!!
