9r29 crom: Why Raise Shift Points?

I have searched thoroughly, couldn't find the answer. I thought those of us with RTs shouldn't monkey around with the shift points, only SRTs. Can someone explain the benefit of doing this and how far you can safely raise the shift points? Thanks much.

I've been doing a lot of reading, and most people seem to think the factory did a good job of hitting the shift points. I guess the 5.7 doesn't benefit from revving to 6k as the power band cuts out in the high 5k area. I didn't do it because the redline is something around 5700 for a reason.

Exactly. While I'm not knocking the feature (love my Predator) I questioned the purpose of raising the shift points. More is not always better but to each his own.

you guys should also consider that all the 5.7s out there are not stock.

Anyone with heads/cam swaps and especially a centrifugal blower, will instantly see a 20-40 rwhp gain by being able to rev it out a bit.

Id also wager that the 6000 rpm shift points would perform a bit better at the dragstrip than the stock points, but I'm sure someone will test it.

Didn't think of that. I'm up for giving it a shot at the dragstrip. Only have CAI, catbacks and 91 CAI tune.

IM all about it, Im going to the track and tear it up. I have ben waiting for the ability to raise the shift points for two years. I have built My engine to make power out past 6400. I immeadiatly set the shift points to 6400 as soon as I updated to CR29. I'll have solid #s this weekend. I expect to have a lower E T and more top end MPH. If not Ill try seting the shift points at 6k. If not Ill set them at 6400 and buya tranZformer and set them at 6200 ..etc... I hope I blow up my rear end so I have to upgrade to an LSD. So meanwhile anyone not wanting to rev past 5800 can leave it alone. Im glad diablo figures out how to add this CHOICE.

I belive that the shift points are stock ( menu probably says no cange) , 6k and 6400. I posted 6200 with the Tranzformer. I would set the shift points @ 6400 with the diablo and then 6200 with the tranzformer. Trazformer can set shift points at any point bepow the diablo threshold. I was just making the point that the new feature gives us many more possibilities...if we want them.

Is 6000 the magic number for an 09 RT with CAI, Corsa catbacks and 91 CAI tune? I have not installed 9r29 yet. Further recommendations are appreciated. What's a Tranzformer?

With your mods I would say between 6k - 6.2k just tweak it till you find a sweet spot. Generally you want to shift 1-2 sooner then 2-3. Your motor is done making power at 5.8k ish then is slopes off. The only reason to shift higher then your peak HP is to get a higher shift recovery. You want to come in right around your peak TQ if possible.

Build a hemi right and it will love to rev!

I loaded the new crom 9r29, but only found an option for cancel, stock, 6200 or 6400. Is there somewhere else to adjust it to 6000?

Ram, I have a 2010 R/T 5.7 and installed the 93 CIA tune today at the 9r28 Crom. Can you or anyone tell me what difference I will see with th 9r29 update?

Also I found that the 93 CIa tune give me great mid range and off line line not so much... I am running 94 Oct Sunoco gas (always have) with a OCtane Booster... HAve you tried the 91CIA v 93 CIA?

Which booster are you running? Unless its the NOS Race Booster, its doing you no good and will end up fouling your plugs. And you need to get a catch can on there ASAP if you don't have one.

I would stick with the 6.2k then. I have a Ram so my options are different.
