Data viewer very short log time

It is my understanding that I should be able to data log on my laptop for a lengthy amount of time regardless of my U7194 having a small amount of memory. Is this an accurate assumption? If so, is there a trick to getting more than 20 seconds worth of data? I have been reading posts all day, trying variations of drivers, and different operating systems. Win7, Vista, XP, and I am able to make all proper connections with my Vista machine, the last one I suspected to be a success. Downloader and Data viewer talk to my Predator just fine. When I connect my Predator and laptop to my truck, the predator indicates that it is be remotely operated. I click the "lightning bolt" button in the data viewer, then the record an am only able to record an extremely small sample. I don't believe it went into power-save or sleep mode. After all, the screen was still readily trending. Any suggestions?

Have you selected any PIDs from pid tree?
Get the runtime.txt file from "My Documents\DataViewer" and attach to this post.

I went ahead and tried it again today with similar results. Yesterday's trial was just in my driveway to see if I could get it to work in general. It did the same thing again so I reset everything and tried to start out running the trend with just the connect feature, not yet recording. It acted strangely, seemed if it was continually trying to connect with no live visual data trending. Once again, I started from square one. Rebooted the Predator, restarted real time data monitoring, and hit the road. Once I was cruising at 1800-1900 RPM, I started recording and left it run. Similar results, but better data. Only about 12 secondâ€™s worth. I had previously made slope adjustments, guessing based off similar setups and results by others in the forums. I just want to be able to record properly when I feel I've run enough miles for accurate results. Here is the attached CSV file.

That's not the file I want. It's called "runtime.txt". Using Window Explorer, It should be in "My Documents\DataViewer" folder. (Vista/Win7 might put it "User\Documents\DataViewer").

DataViewer re-creates this journal file every time it starts and logs any errors detected when communicating with the tool.

Looks like your not connected to the tool. Immediately after Dataviewer stops (after approx 12 sec.). Exit DV and copy out the runtime.txt. Need to see why DV is stopping log record.

Also, are you using USB-Serial or 9pin to 9pin cable to connect Predator with Laptop ?

I did fail to mention it but, yes I am using an adapter from usb to a 9 pin serial. That seemed to an obstacle initially for me in getting he drivers set up, but I am able to use other Diablo software properly with Predator. I will try again early tomorrow, and immediately copy runtime file after each attempt. Is there a way to properly end laptop to Predator communication?

I also checked DEP settings suggested by DataViewer help, they are as suggested. I did have a little trouble with finding it at first, so I posted a new topic in this forum in regards to a correct path to the DEP settings. I am going to try and reconnect everything and check my COM port settings when I start next time as well. I would assume the computer would automaticly set the baud rate etc., and if not set correctly, would the Predator communicate at all?

I am currently unable to figure out how to do as the Dataviewer help suggests in regards to setting the HyperTerminal to listen to the COM port as well. At one point, I also attempted to run in ccompatibility for Windows XP. The program never fully opened and I had to use Task Manager to shut it down.

You don't need to use Hyperterminal. That's simply to find out which virtual comm port the USB driver is using. The log you attached previously does show tool, version and VIN. (U7194, 9r10, vin...). To get just tool info and vehicle info requires basic connectivity between your PC/Laptop and Predator/ECU.

IF the scenario your claiming is DV abruptly stops logging after ~12 sec.; Them simply exit using File->Exit or Alt-F4 to cause DV to exit. Copy the runtime.txt file and let's see if DV is logging a comms issue.

i am beginning to question if my serial connector is giving me problems. As most connect and disconnect actions take place on windows machines, they make a particular noise. I was determined to try and try just about anything I could think of to recreate a failure. Looking for a problem I slightly wiggled the serial connection on the Predator and the computer made the tell tale connect/disconnect noise. Previously I believe my laptop was muted. I am able to log directly on the Predator for about 2-3 min. When I get the Vista machine back from my daughter I will send you the last couple of runtime files. I will not have time to try anything new until next week, I work crazy weird hours. In the meantime I will lok into a new USB-serial adapter. Is there a preferred brand or place to purchase said cable or certain ones to avoid? Tkank you for your assistance so far, it is certainly appreciated !!
