How much power does it take to blow out a ring and pinion?

Post by bootlife »

Love the Trinity guys, Blew the rear ring and pinion out of the diff cover last night lol. For Those who want a good comparison on what the trinity can do for you, I have a 2000 Silverado Z-71. lots of add ons and it is 7000lbs, My friend has a brand new 2011 F-150 5.0. With out the trinity his truck is 4 or 5 seconds faster in the 1/4. with the 87 Oct tune, change shift points a lil, bumped the fuel curve up to 3%, and The WOT curve up 3%, Im happy to say we are a close run, take off is side by side, (B4 he just left me sitting there) but his 6 speed auto out does my 4 speed at about 75mph. Not shabby for such a heavy truck with 33in Muders lol. Im goin to beef it up a lil more and then im goin for a more aggressive tune. So if ur wondering what kind of power you can get from a proggrammer, I have pics of my diff cover that looks like some1 shot holes threw it. so make sure all the weak links are takin care of B4 you go and blow all the cars and trucks away that you couldn touch B4. Thanks To all the Guys At diablo sport go a great programmer.

Update on the ring and pinon, didn blow it out lol, was so much torque that it sheared the bolts on the driver side on the carrier bearing and shot them threw the diff cover. So i had a a set of 4.10s and a Detroit true trac installed. next on the list is headers throttle body and some 2.02 heads the a custom tune on the trinity. THANKS GUYS

What's that the 8.5" rear end? Should be able to handle at least 500ft/lbs before blowing. I've blown a couple 7.625" rears. They're much weaker.

ya, its the 8.5 10 bolt, LOL Im not in the 500lbs range but thats what happin. The 5.3L isnt messing around is all I can say. I took it to the strip and ran a constant 16 sec 80mph when the truck was bone stock, Im going to take it back in the spring and see how its doing with all the power adders. my goal is 13sec, im thinkin im pretty close to a high to mid 14 now.
