Factory tune, surging issue.

Posting here to see if anyone has a similar problem. Its with a 2010 Challenger R/T Auto. When accelerating, if in traffic for example, and the tranny has already shifted to third gear, at about 25 mph, when leaning on the gas, but not enough to kick down the transmission, the car surges horribly. If you kick the trans into 2nd, the car pulls hard. Its almost as if the transmission shifts into the next higher gear too quickly, probably for fuel economy. I hooked up the Predator, and logged data. MDS is turned OFF, the stock tune is loaded, trans shift firmness is ON. I am running No Ethanol 89 octane gasoline. While the surging takes place, the following was observed. As the pedal is pressed, there is a huge spike from the No2 knock sensor, and I am seeing 6 degrees of knock retard. This slowly drops to about 3 or 4 degrees until reaching about 3000 rpm when it drops off completely. If you kick the trans to the next lower gear there is a much smaller spike, and about 1 degree of knock retard for a very short period of time.
The car has done this since new btw..
