new predator user questions

Post by njctd79 »

I just bought an 06 mustang GT. It came with a K&N CAI, BBK TB, underdrive pullies, BBK shorties, Flowmaster axle back and a Predator U7140 complete in the box.

I think the car has the provided Diablo performance tune in it but how can I tell.

I would like to experiment with small increases in the timing and shift firmness. Is this OK? Recommendations?

Would the car benefit from a custom tune now?

Thanks,
Kevin

To determine which tune is currently loaded in the car's ECU, Select 'Options'/'Last Tune Written' in the Predator's menus.

It's not recommended to change the timing values, unless the engine is experiencing pinging, or you want to use gas with a higher octane than the tune, e.g., 93 octane gas with a 91 octane tune(increase global timing by 2 deg).

If you're referring to a dyno tune when you say 'custom tune', then that's always a good idea, since every engine is different. But obviously it will cost $.

Although a dyno tune is not out of the question I was referring to a tune emailed from a tuner like Bamachips built around the specs of the car.

Doug at Bamachips works with Predator tuners, so he can write a tune for your car.

How much some thing like this can cost?

All I have, engine performance, wise is 3.73 gears, off-road h-pipe, k&n cool air intake, and pulleys. And of course... the Predator (u7146).

I believe that Bamachips can do a tune for $75.

After determining which tune I had I changed it to the 91 octane tune and the car went into limp mode. I think it may be the aftermarket throttle body.

Yeah, aftermarket throttle bodies often cause this issue.
Try removing it and replacing it with the stocker, all should be fine.

I put the stock TB on, put the 91 octane tune in and now the car kicks ass.

What can I do to tune for 93 octane.

How about shift firmness. My booklet shows it can be changed but I dont see it on the Predator menu. I noticed I have version 28 and there is a newer version on this site. Would that change be on the new version. I have the U7140 for an 06 stang auto.
