Custom Tune Advised - Don't need it.

Post by gismik531 »

Problem fixed after being advised for me to pay for a custom tune. The guy practically begged me to send my turner to him at the Turner Store, because I don't have a PC Interface adapter. Comes to find out I only had a pinched Throttle Body gasket. I will bet the custom tune is often given as advice to a problem such as a slight rough idle etc. A little bit of some simple troubleshooting is necessary before making a decsion to purchase a custom tune for the Turner Store. Just a word of advice!!

How can you fault the guy for trying to help you with the problem you called him about? He didn't have your car in front of him but only has the information that YOU were telling him about the issue. Alot of issues customers have are just that, customer caused issues, but the internet mentality is it has to be the tune's issue because they just installed it too.

Troubleshooting is your own issue, when you dont take the car to him. He was just trying to help. I have no idea who he is or what the business is but there's no reason to attempt to bash him for his help.

Agreed.

Without a datalog or someone seeing the issue in person, how would you expect anyone on a forum to be able to troubleshoot it?

And, FWIW, if you look around, 9.5 out of 10 idle related issues will require a custom tune to fix ;)

I Emailed him and I asked for a quote to do the custom tune. I know he didn't have the car in front of him. I added a part and simply did some troubleshooting to see if I could find the problem beforehand, and not spend $75 on something he could tell me when he got the turner. I would have to fix it afterwards anyway when he found the problem. Simple word of advise. If you have a problem after an add on and a canned tune normally works without any problems, then a little troubleshooting is necessary before spending more money on something someone else can tell you after your charged for it. If you took it the wrong way, that's your opinion. I'm just saying troubleshoot before spending more money on something.
