inTune question

Post by O'Brien »

Ok...here's the scoop. I own a 2011 Chevy Silverado Z71 4X4 with the 5.3 engine with AFM.It has roughly 500 miles on the clock. My primary goal is to disable the AFM before I become one of the many owners who are next in line for the factory oil consumption test and potentially a candidate for new pistons and rings on the 4 cylinders that are dumped when the system is in 4 hole operation.I'm not looking for performance gains or changes in shift parameters. I'd like to disable the AFM/DOD and possibly change the top speed limiter, but the latter is not a high priority. Is the inTune the animal I'm looking for to do this? Any input is highly appreciated. Particularly from someone with a late model Silverado with the 5.3 who has disabled the AFM with this unit.

Can you elaborate? Yes what? The in Tune will perform the AFM disabale and alter the top speed limiter without any added tune package? Or do you have to install a particular tune package that includes the AFM disable and top speed limiter?

Yes it can disable everything, the AFM and the limiter. Don't worry about the mileage, you can still install a tune. I installed an intake and tune on my CTS-V with less then 500 miles on it. Still only has 1400, but its fine.

I'm not concerned about milegae. I bought a 4wd truck to run the pi$$ out of . Apparently I didn't do enough research before buying or I would have ordered the same unit with a 6.2 liter engine and no AFM. The 5.3 makes plenty of power.I just don't care for the pesky AFM and surely don't look forward to any issues with it down the road. If the dealer voids my warranty ...so be it. The only potential issues I see with the engine seem to be related to the AFM anyway. If I can avoid that then I'm a happy camper. I've never used an engine tuner before so I hope the prompts are fairly straight forward as I have little interest beyond disabling the AFM.

I have the inTune for my 2010 5.3 running the 87 Octane tune and it's great with the AFM disabled. The truck is much more enjoyable to drive not having to deal with the pesky AFM kicking in all the time. The throttle response is better along with the shifts. Don't worry about voiding the warranty, you can put the stock tune bnack i nany time you have to go to the dealer for service.
It's easy to use, the prompts tell you exactly whats going on and are easy to understand....Enjoy it.

Thanks for the info. That's just what I was looking for. There's a local shop here that says he can get me one in a couple of days for $399 and no tax. Now once I get it I just hope my feeble limited programming capabilties can sort out the install. Id be very happy to be as happy as you seem to be after your tune.I'll post back either with results or whining for some help.

I would be interested as well. Can a custom tune be made that makes the Automatic work as a manual in "M" mode. I hate all the shifting this tranny does. If it were to hold 6th longer, the MPG would also increase.

ALSO could an O2 delete be available for a 2006 GTO?

Thanks.

Nolimitzr1, we can do Ford and DCX custom tunes for you. Obviously this is for a Dodge being it is an inTune since Ford is not supported yet. Feel free to contact us and we can help.

you'd need to change the shift points... but there's no GM tcm/tranny support yet on the inTune, so you can't change that stuff yet... it will be available soon tho as a free downloadable update, and then yes, you'd be able to change tranny parameters... (the Trinity has tcm/tranny support already)

you'd need to get a custom tune done for it in order to get the O2 codes disabled...
