2008 NNBS GMC Sierra Original Backup NOT SAVED (-11)

Hi all,

I have finally bit the bullet and decided to get myself a handheld programmer for my NNBS 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 4 speed truck

I have the Trinity T1000 with v.1r08l version

In 2009 I got a custom tune by one of my friends via the HP tuner software and in 2010 I needed some warranty job to be done in which the dealer either replaced my PCM or re-flashed it to stock

Anyways, my problem is that when I try to save my original tune I get

Original Backup NOT SAVED (-11)

More info: PCM: error seed/key (-1)

Trinity was unable to save your original tune after 2 attempts. This can happen if the vehicle already has a performance tune

Not tuning vehicle because of backup (4)

the tune is 'locked' with HPtuners, it needs to be unlocked before the tuner will work.

Can the dealer reflash it to stock or should I unlock it via HP tuner?

Currently the car has a stock tune, speed limiter Torque management and all

sounds liek they never flashed it.
It likely needs to be unlocked by HPtuner, a dealer flash cant go over a locked PCM either.

My friend has stopped tuning a long time ago, he only tuned his cars and his friends cars

Looks like I need a new PCM

Quick question, does the PCM come pretuned from the factory or does it need to be flashed by the dealer prior to using the car?

My understanding in the past was they were blank. You are buying a new part and it needs to be programmed for your vin.

^^^correct, it must be flashed at the dealer.... perferably in the truck.
If you are worried about it being a warrenty issue simply put the truck on their lot while they are closed and remove the old computer. Tell them the tow truck dropped it off and the computer was stolen from it at the mall. Nothing more.
