Old Chip?

Post by bcdudley »

I have a 2002 Ford F-150. I got a Diablo Sport chip when the truck had about 10k miles on it and kept it in until about 30k miles. I took it out because of gas prices.

I have been thinking about putting it back in now, but the truck has 110K miles and the chip has just been laying around unprotected for several years. It has been in my console where it may have been subject to esd. The chip appears to physically be in great condition.

I am just wondering what are the risk I could be facing if I try to put it back in. Could it cause permanent damage to my truck or will it just not work? My truck runs great with the exception of the transmission down-shifting a little hard at freeway speeds.

Thanks.

As long as the chip is clean, undamaged and not been in contact with electrical/magnetic devices it should still be ok. You can plug it in to the PCM and try it, if the anti-theft light flashes and it doesn't start then you know it is bad. Simply remove it if that is the case.
