U7193 Performance Tune Still A Problem

Well, i have made all of the parameter adjustments to the U7193 performance tune, and still no luck. I still get a 1-2 second hesitation off the line. Disabling the TM did nothing. I would have thought that with this turned off, I should at least be able to get a squeak.

Anyway, unless someone has a suggestion as to how to get rid of this hesitation, I may go back to either the Predator 87 tune, or maybe even the stock tune and sell the Predator. It is just not worth $7.00/tank for the changes in performance I am seeing. I love the shift point changes and there is definitely increased power when kicking into passing gear. But for a 15% increase in the fuel cost and a 15% decrease in mileage, it may not be worth it for me.

Thanks all, but especially 06MontySS. You have been a great help in trying to get me fune tuned. Although, since the 7193 cannot log data, it makes this process highly lacking in the accuracy department in my humble opinion. I thought it had the logging capability, but when I reread it later, I must have confused it with a model that does, and assumed they all had it. That is my problem, and in no way reflects on the quality of the DS product.

I did some additional searching here in the forums, and saw a number of other posts with people who have the same issue with the u7193 (on vehicles other than the SSR), and also some with other Predator models with different engine/trans combos. There was no clear resolution to the problem, as they also tried to change the TM parameters as recommended and got no improvements either.

Is this just something that is inherent to the u7193? I saw something you referenced about a PE delay of 4-5 seconds that some Predator models remove? Is that something that is possible on my setup, or does this PCM in an '04 SSR not have that as an adjustable parameter that can be tuned?

Last, can you provide me with some info about what the most recent version of BIOS and software is for my unit? Here is what I see, and I want to make sure I am working with what I should be working with:

BIOS v6.01
SW Rev: GM04 Predator 2.10
HW Rev: 1.01
SN: 004688
Manufacture Date: 09/02 (??? 5 years ago, are there any updates available)

Please advise.

If this problem is something that cannot be adjusted, I want to stop before I get really frustrated. If it is something that can be fixed, please advise as to how I can best proceed. Things are soooooo close, if we can just get this hesitation licked. And I know that it is not ever going to be a racecar with my mostly stock setup and being this heavy. That is not my desire, but I would think that I should be able to at least get SOME noise from the tires off the line.

Still researching and looking for a potential cause of this hesitation issue.

Could this problem be a bad or dirty MAF? I may try to see if CNC MAF cleaner aersol will help unless it is unlikely that this is the problem. I have seen no MAF error codes... It would only cost me $6 to try.

More a shot in the dark than anything. I really want to make this work.

get me another set of numbers and let's look at it again...

with your commanded throttle position at 20% or more, get me normal driving/cruising numbers for:

long term fuel trim bank 1
long term fuel trim bank 2

and do a WOT run and get me numbers for:
oxygen sensor voltage bank 1 sensor 1
oxygen sensor voltage bank 2 sensor 1


and yes, I'd try cleaning the MAF with the CRC spray... I do mine every couple of months just for the heck of it, and it does make a difference.

I have an 07 Silverado Monte has helped me get rid of a huge amout of the delay. I came from a superchips tuner and was very disappointed. I thought it was going to be more of the same with the Predator...but I'm pretty happy with the tune now. I still get get huge white clouds of smoke off the back tires...but they will usually make some noise if I want them too. It has taken a little more than a week to tune things in...and that is with data logging...so your process will be a little bit harder, because there will be a little more trial and error. You should be able to get pretty damn close. I don't know what options your tuner has on it...but I'm guessing you have alot of the same parameters as mine...but maybe under another name.

Monty has been great for the rest of the tune parameters, but this 1-2 second delay has not been affected at all with any of the parameter changes.

Monty - what about the PE delay...?? Could I potentially have a Predator tune that does not zero this out...?? Hopefully Mike will give some feedback on my Predator and maybe give me some insight into the revision levels and whether I am "current".

I will try and run another set of numbers today, but I think we may be chasing our tails until the PE delay is worked out. This hesitation of 1-2 seconds HAS to be computer imposed, and not just the fine tuning of the injector slopes. That is why I was so fired up about turning off TM, since that is a computer controlled function that could potentially do exactly what I am seeing with this hesitation as it pulls back the timing to manage torque. Unfortunately, it made no real difference by turning it off.

I will get you some additional numbers later today, but I think we are really close to being dialed in on the injector slopes and WOT fuel parameters. It runs alot better outside the 0-10MPR range with definite gains in performance from stock.

Joe, the only question I have is are you 100% sure you are modifying the Diablo tune, and not the factory hp tune, as that tune will not remove the PE delay.
If you are indeed using the Diablo tune, I'd like you to email me a copy of the original backup file so I can try a custom tune for you to get that truck moving out properly.

I am absolutely sure. When I go into the 7193 and go to options, the unit is locked, showing that it is in use (I assume that is what it means), and the Car Tune is showing Diablo tune. I have modified the performance tune many times. It is the first selection on the Tune It list (Performance Tune, 87 Tune, Factory Tune).

So you want me to send you my original cr3 factory tune that was backed up prior to the Diablo tune being laid down? Or do you want the Predator Performance tune that I am using now? If you want the later, I have not seen how to upload the performance tune file to my computer. I already have the factory tune file, so will send it now to your email address.

How much longer till TCM support?

I got the new tune and got it installed. All I can say is WOW! Much better. Zero hesitation out of the hole, ZERO!! I got a small tire spin from a standing start, but that may be due to the fact that the TM parameters were reset back to the stock performance tune, but please confirm this later. What was changed just so I can learn a bit from this exercise..??

I went in and installed the custom tune, but it did not ask me if I wanted to reset the paramaters (06MonteSS said it would ask this when I selected the new tune for install). That said, what will the updated tune file you sent and I installed do to the parameters I had previously modified? My parameter mods were to the injector slope (+4), WOT Fuel (-2), Cooling fans, TM Abuse Mode time (off) and % Torque Redustion vs RPM (off). All other parameters were the U7193 performance tune standard settings, no mods. When I went in and looked at the WOT Fuel and injector slopes, they were showing zero%, that is why I think that they are reset back to the performance tune standard.

Please advise at your earliest convenience, and thanks to you and Johan for what seems to be exactly what I was hoping for when I bought the Predator. Night and day difference.

Hey Joe...

as we discussed in our IM's just now, that message about "reset all parameters" is most likely specific to the newer models and is not on your version predator. Everything installed fine and you did everything correct, so you're all set.

also, you had sent them your original backup tune file, so none of your previous adjustments will be in that new custom tune they sent you.

The tune file they sent you back is most likely the diablo performance tune with the PE delay removed. So, you'll need to get some new numbers and make your adjustments again.
