GM Warranty Question

In the Silverado/Sierra Forum, we are having a discussion on whether GM has the ability to detect and void a warranty when the truck has undergone tuning by The Diablosport Intune. In this forum, truck owners are relunctant to tune their engines based on the warrant cancellation threat. According to your website, this programmer does not leave a trace after changing back to stock. It states in the features of this programmer that "Warranty safe-no watermarks, fingerprints, or counters". It appears that GM experts (for the model years 2011 and 2012) have the ability to see all the calibration history. What are your thoughts?

We designed the tool to leave no trace of having been there.
If you remove the tune, there is nothing for them to see.
If you leave the tune in the PCM, then would have to read it out and send the file to an engineer to compare it to a known stock file to see if it had been changed. There would be no indication that it was indeed tuned though until they compared the calibration data, which is not something any GM tech has the ability to do.

They can't do anything to the warranty over it anyway, even if they could see it. Read up on the Magnuson-Moss Act. Unless an aftermarket part directly causes a problem, it has no impact on any warranties, and even if it does cause a problem, they can only void the warranty on that particular item and must cover everything else.

GM Rep - Your vehicle shows the ECU has been reflashed

You answer - Yes it has, you idiots didnt program my speedometer for the correct tire size from the factory, I had to do it myself.

Simple scenario how to explain it.

First off ...You should of removed the tune/flash proir to returning to the dealership. (not flaming)
It is written clearly (restore your vehicle to stock) in many spots and if they do an update you are left with a locked tuner (yet another problem...self inflicted at that)

Did you bring the speedo calibration to the dealers attention proir to flashing it yourself?
If YES then bring that to their attention and politely explain to them... they were asked to fix it
Did you recieve any moving voilations or warnings because of the error? If so show them nicely
How did/does the improper calibration effect your warrenty/odometer reading and other aspects of your vehicle? are you getting short changed over time ....ask them

Understood.... but I was/am trying to show that if you answer like that...(Yes it has, you idiots didnt program my speedometer for the correct tire size from the factory, I had to do it myself), they will definately get their heckles up and not want to work with you.

Hello together,

I have another question about mikelÂ´s post.

If somebody will send the calibration data to GM and they will compare it, can they see the modification date of the calibration data?

And thats when you tell GM, read the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. You don't give me free parts, I'm free to use what ever parts I want on my vehicle. You void my warranty, I'll see you in court.

Yes BUT, if whatever tuning you did caused damage to your vehicle, GM is not liable for something you did that caused damage to the vechicle.
If you tune your vehicle and the engine blows up, you are most likely going to be out of luck.
You can use whatever brand parts you want on your vehilce that's correct, if they don't meet the vehicle manufacturers standards you are out of luck with that also.
For some reason people read that Warranty Act you posted and don't really understand what it means.
