Problems retrieving log from U7191 using Dataviewer
I know the computer can communicate with the Predator because I just uploaded the most recent revision 8r09. But when I am using the DataViewer, the program finds the Predator for a second and then gives an error message saying "Failure retrieving tool info! Please reboot and consider updating your tool firmware". I am not sure what to do, any suggestions. It did this before as well with the 8r08 version. I am using the latest version of the DataViewer as well. I tried uninstalling the DataViewer, deleting all files associated with DataViewer, and still get the same error message.

A new version of the DataViewer will be posted tomorrow that may fix the issue. You are using a USB to Serial cable, correct? Which type of cable?

Yes USB to serial cable. Its just some random generic cables. The USB to serial I got from ebay and the serial cable came from radio chack I believe.

Try this when you get the chance:
DataViewer 3.1.3.0
This release features a major rewrite of the communications layer to better support the various USB to Serial cables.

what cable can I buy that will not have any issues? Is there a cheap generic serial to USB cable available somewhere that will not have these problems?

I have that exact USB to serial cable. Then again I really dont think its the cables causing this problem, especially since I can update the predator tool with the latest revisions. Any other suggestions?

If you are still using 3.1.3.0, try installing the latest (3.1.4.1). There have been major changes to the communications code during the last few revisions, so this latest update might make a big difference.
When DSDownloader connects, what COM port and baud rate does it say it is connecting on?

OK I downloaded and installed the 3.1.4.1 and it still is not working. The DSDowloader never really connects, it searches the ports, finds the predator and instantly says "Failure retrieving tool info!" then it cycles around searching the ports again, and does the same thing. It connects for a milisecond to the tool, then gives the error message. According to my computer it is on COM9 at 115200. I dont get it, if I can connect and uploaded the newest revisions to the predator why cant I download the log from the tool.
RE: Problems retrieving log from U7191 using Dataviewer
I cannot reproduce your problem. I tried a 7191 tool with an 8r09, connecting through both a straight serial cable and a usb-to-serial cable, with DataViewer version 3.1.4.1.
Please email me your runtime.txt file from the DataViewer folder.
What version of DSDL were you successfully able to put a new CROM on the Predator with?
When you are putting a CROM on the Predator you are doing a large one-way transaction. When you are using the DataViewer there is a lot of back and forth. That is why the one is working and the other isn't.

Also, what version of Windows are you running? If you are using Vista, there are several things you might try under this thread: http://www.diablosport.com/index.php?na ... =9767#9767
